I think it will be NAW. Am I the only one that thinks he may be a big reason we were comfortable moving Jrue and freeing up tons of cap space to fill whatever is missing after the draft?

NO that's not why we moved him, and we didn't free up tons of cap space, matter of fact, we need to take on some cap space so we can get over the cap so we can use the full MLE. We're still a few million under the cap, and need to get over it.

Lonzo said he wanted it. Let's see if he can elevate that high.

I seriously doubt they made the moves they did based on confidence in NAW, who severely underperformed the lofty expectations his summer league and training camp performances suggested.

I hope he comes out the other side what his potential says he could be: a position versatile on/off ball guard that can defend multiple positions and score at all three levels. Him taking a leap forward would go a long way but I’d say my confidence in that is mixed right now.

I think Ingram is the reason. There have been talks about him being our 2 next year. The thing is, we need to get another wing that can play the 3. We also have like 7 PGs on the team if you consider Naw, Frank, Hill, Hart all PGish players.

My bet is that we move up and draft a 3 or that we package a deal for someone. Now who that might be is something I wont even try to guess... i expect another move in the next 36 hours though if I were a betting man.

To answer your initial statement OP, I think Naw has a lot of talent, but he’ll need significant improvement to get playing time over the players we currently have. But I think he has what it takes.

Lonzo was working extensively on floaters this offseason and with Jrue gone he'll need to step on defense. He definitely will have the most opportunity to improve.

I'd put Jaxon as 2nd most likely to be MIP on the team. He mainly needs experience to improve and he should get it.

For the team's sake it better be Lonzo.

Pretty sure if Miller is guaranteed, we get to the cap with just re-signing Ingram to the max.

Yes, but i seriously doubt they want to do that, meaning they keep him. Miller is a worthless roster spot.
We can either use him to trade for someone else, or we can not guarantee him and make an uneven trade absorbing some cap space for another team.

We are around $97M right now with Bledsoe/Hill, no Miller, BI's cap hold, but we are two roster spots short of 12 so need to add another $3M to that, so we are around $100-101M.

What we could do is send Hill somewhere and take back the extra salary so we become an over the cap team, so then we can use the MLE. Sending HIll to a contender so they can get his 3 point shooting as well as the TPE in the deal would benefit them.
Toronto for a S&T of Ibaka
Miami for Olynyk
The Nets for Prince
Nuggets for a S&T of Millsap
the Jazz for Royce O'Neal

If the Mavericks want to eye a max FA next offseason, they could do a George Hill for Seth Curry or Delon Wright or Maxi Kleber or Dwight Powell, and they'd have just about enough for a max FA next offseason assuming they don't take on any additional salary. Hill could replace Curry easily for them, and i would think they could be a pretty big destination for FA's next offseason with Luka and Porzingis as well as the Texas taxes.
