from Nola.com's John Reid:
quote:

Since their arrival five years ago, Pelicans coach Monty Williams and general Manager Dell Demps have not necessarily always agreed on the best course to take to improve the roster.

quote:

''We talk all the time on what we need, it doesn't always mean we agree,''Williams said regarding his relationship with Demps. ''But that's not a bad thing. I don't think it's always about my philosophy or Dell's philosophy. I think it's a combination of the two.

quote:

''If they don't fit my style, it forces me to branch out to different ways to coach, which helps me,'' Williams said. ''Dell and I have talked about that every year - how can we get guys who have high acumen on both ends of the floor. That's not me, that's our organization. You are not always going to get those guys. It's just part of the deal. When you have the people that you have, you work with them and try to get the most out of them.''

Non-story. No coach and GM see eye to eye on everything.

Agreed.

Probably a good thing that they don't agree on everything.

This about sums it up..

Dell built a team to run and score. Monty wants to slow down to snails pace on offense and focus on defense

Wasn't there a report like a year ago that they can't stand each other?

Not a report, there were message board rumors after the New York loss saying they weren't talking to each other. Some of this was from BSS saying after the New York loss "other voices might start getting listened to more" implying Demps had been advocating to Loomis that Monty get fired and finally had enough evidence to back him up. But we all know how that Monty getting fired story turned out so it's hard to say how much there is to it.

Winning cures all so I'd imagine any tension has probably subsided as long as neither of them said something they can't take back.

It is important not to lump everyone together on those "reports." It doesn't work that way.

This is somewhat of a nonstory, and we know that they were on the hotseat. Winning cures all. All of this was said above.

I think you will find Monty amenable to more running when he has trust in his guys. This can come in time or with new guys... If the trust comes.

Is anybody and their significant other ever on the same page all the time? Or anybody and their boss or coworkers? Yeah...

I guess maybe there is a little redemption to the BSS story (sorry 42, it may not have been you, but it wasn't just MM, there was a full "Bourbon Street Shots" podcast about it). The reasoning for Monty being replaced by Jeff Ireland was that the New York loss gave Demps enough ammunition to win the internal power struggle. Woj doesn't point to any specific incident, but it does appear there was a power struggle and Demps won.

quote:

General manager Dell Demps had been wrestling for greater control of the franchise and pushed out Williams. Around Williams’ staff this season, there was a sense of decreasing management support and unnecessary obstacles, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
