His next tweet pretty much says Monroe cares more about money than the game.

Celts offered him $5 and Pels $2.2m

Better coach and more money. Oh well.

When you add the set off amount he'd have to pay back to Phoenix and prorate if for the games remaining, it was only a $500k difference. Monroe probably liked the opportunity better, which he should. Being a bench player on a Finals team is probably better than starting and getting exposed against the Warriors or Rockets.
ETA: Scratch all that. Apparently it's not a prorated amount but $5 million for the rest of the season.

The Greg Monroe $5M contract for 10 weeks of work with the Celtics( plus the playoffs) is equal to a player signing a $13M contract before the season started.

What a traitor. Better not come back to NOLA again.

Seriously? I absolutely would’ve taken the opportunity to play in the finals

Why would he stop? That is a compelling narrative to get Ainge to add more $$$.
