This is what I think the 4-way trade will be. 4-way trade

How does Asik for Jared Dudley fit in a 4-way trade with the Rockets, Knicks, Suns, and Pelicans?
I simplified the players in the trade for just salary that needed to go out using players we know the teams want to send out. Then you just have to figure out the compensation part.
Knicks get Asik/Quarterman/Onuaku
Pels get Dudley
Rockets get Melo
Suns get Ryan Anderson
I'm not sure the Knicks are owed anything else, they are being saved $25 million on a player that is disgruntled and has them over a barrel with the stupid no trade clause they gave him. Put another way, if the Knicks could buy out Melo for $28 instead of the $54 they owe him, I'm sure they'd do it and Melo would be on the Rockets/Cavs for the minimum right now. This trade basically accomplishes that for the Knicks.
The Pels are obviously good swapping Asik for Dudley. That means all that's left to figure out is how pay Phoenix for taking Ryno. Pels took 1/3 of the money owed him by taking Dudley. I figure Houston owes most of the rest and wish they wouldn't have given up so much for CP3.

can't honestly expect to trade one of the worst contracts in the league for what is essentially the centerpiece player in a 4 team trade.
why not?
Paul George and Jimmy Butler returns were laughable. both are significantly better than Melo.
Anderson to NYK makes some sense. i completely understand and agree with not wanting to touch Anderson's deal, especially after the ludicrous Hardaway $$ (+ dumb Noah contract).
But the Knicks are going nowhere for a couple of years w/ or w/o Melo. get some picks, eat some salary, start fresh, and play guys who can fit around Porzingis, while still being bad enough to get high picks. Anderson can help in both of those areas.

No to them or this would be a 2 team deal and already done.

the big issue in this trade is that no one wants Ryno for $19 mil a year. this is the big hold up. If a team like Phoenix takes on Asik I'd assume we would give them a 1st round pick. So a team taking Ryno I would think will receive at least the equivalent of a 1st round pick or more.
(I know its not an exact comparison bc Ryno can actually play and hit some shots whereas Asik has less skill than Fletcher Mackel talking about basketball. But you get my point.)
When it comes to the Pelicans involvement, the Knicks don't want Ryno but maybe they are willing to stretch Asik's contract as opposed to the alternative, but we don't want Ryno either so I have no idea where this trade is going. Either way this whole thing just feels forced and I think its because Houston is not willing/physically unable to give another team an incentive to join.

I enjoy watching Morey struggle with the league's worst contract.

wait wait wait
The Knicks shouldnt take Anderson back b/c his contract, but they should take on Asik? Yes, Anderson still has $60M left and Asik is 1/3 of that. But Anderson can actually play and offer the Knicks something (spacing next to Porzingis).

Yea honestly I don't know where the Pelicans bring value to this trade unless its to take on Ryno who we really don't need or want
Why? Melo is going to be your SF. Not only that what will the Rockets send out of value in this trade? Because Ryno and his contract are a burden right now, not something of real value.

If it's Anderson for Melo + filler, I agree.
You pull other teams in for sweeteners to make that more palatable.

Hmmm. Interesting. Hopefully some things are happening.
Also. This way, as long as the Pels make at least 2 more moves, he can be right.

Okay, some of y'all haven't been following the trade, which is understandable..
But the Knicks aren't looking to take on salary dumps. They said they want young players and / or picks.
Portland said they'll take Anderson. Portland was looking for a suitor for Myers Leonard. The Suns seemed willing to take Leonard based on reporting.
Hypothetical would be:
Knicks get Mo Harkless, Tim Quarterman, Onuaku, maybe some other prospect / pick.
Rockets get Carmelo Anthony
Portland gets Ryan Anderson
Suns get Myers Leonard and pick(s)

You're dreaming if you think you're only sending out Ryan Anderson.

And the Rockets would be sending out Anderson, Onuaku, a pick, possibly draft rights to Llull, etc. They don't have a lot to give which is why other teams were brought in.
But the little they can give combined with the little other teams can give would make a palpable trade for NYK.

Ok cool. You're sending more.

The Knick's hands are tied. Carmelo wants out. They want him gone. And he has a no-trade clause and will only be traded to Rockets or Cavs.
They aren't in any position of strength.

Pj Tucker plays SF for the Rockets. If Melo went to Houston, I think he would start at SF and play some backup PF.

that trade makes a lot more sense than the Asik stuff.
PHX is sort of weird though. and i think Portland would like to shed some more salary. maybe they do another move w/ Crabbe after this.
