It’s bad to fix your mistake, mitigate losses, improve the cap situation so you can add another piece or extend current players for a handful of 2nd round picks?

Who knew?

It’s a good move. One of the Griff’s best qualities is he is not stubborn to move guys and coaches he brought in when it clearly isn’t working out.

Griff’s problem has been he has mistakes to clean up every year.

Every team has mistakes. Look at the hits. Jose, Naji, Dyson, Trey, CJ, Nance.

I’ll take that and sacrifice Jax and Devonte.

When we signed Graham we never knew Jose would hit like he did. We signed Graham to be our bench guard/6th man/spark plug scorer, but Jose came in and took that role right out from under him.

It makes the Graham deal look bad, but at the time there was no possible way to know we ended up signing that type of guy in the same offseason as an UDFA

Is JR going to play tonight or still in transition to the team?

We signed Graham to start cause we struck out on Lowry, Hardaway, and Dinwiddie. Got a poor return for Lonzo by not being more aggressive knowing we wouldn’t resign.

Was a terrible moment for Griff all around. Gladly one he has yet to repeat

Nope. Pure rental. We going to have a crazy logjam next season with Dyson, Herb, Trey, and Naji vying for minutes. And that doesn't even include the possibly of a rookie.

It’s a long season, and JR will come Into the team a better offensive player than 3 of those 4 and a solid defender right below Naji’s level. No reason he might not stick around

I really think some of you all should read up on JR before posting some of this stuff. He is a type of player almost any good team would be made better having come off the bench. Like a Hart or Nance. Good glue guys with great character that do all the little things and just make teams better no matter where they are

Reports are that this wasn’t a rental and we have every intention of seeing him as more than a part-year guy

I don’t know. I hope you are right but trading 12mil 2 yr left for a 12mil expiring seems like that might not be the case.

I totally agree with your assessment of him but it feels like this is to make room to have a new contract for Marshall and Jones while letting Jaxson walk too.

I just hope that the brass are willing to go into the luxury tax just a little bit if it means bringing home a championship. I think that is still tbd.

That's some revisionist history..

Graham was 100% a panic move by Griff because we let our PG walk and couldn't even get a sit down with the guys we wanted to throw a blank check at

I don’t think he would cost 12 mil to resign, but I edited that part out cause Guillory apparently said he doesn’t know for sure.

Still, reminds me a bit of Nance tbh. Where people were convinced he was just a throw in and we already had a logjam with Billy/Jax/JV/Zion. But tbh, most games, if we get something close to last years JR, I would want playing over most guys off the bench besides maybe Trey. And even the , JR is more aggressive consistently and doesn’t disappear like Trey has a tendency.

Not sure we’ll see a lot of him tonight, but I expect Willie will love him and he’s going to be inching toward 20mpg as the season goes on

Thank You! Its one thing to make a mistake, every GM does, its a whole other thing when you double down and don't admit a mistake was made instead of fixing it.

Griff fixed this mistake. We can honestly say right now we have no bad contracts on the team.

If we could lock up JR anywhere from 8-10m that would be a good deal.

I don't see where 20 minutes comes from right now to give to JR. i guess from kira, jose, and naji?

how much do you anticipate Naji making on his next deal? if it’s comparable to what JR will get, JR may be the upgrade here. on the court he is an upgrade

Not just naji, this offseason is our best path to lock up herb for cheap. If we decline his team option next year he becomes a RFA where as if we accept he team option he becomes an UFA after next year. I would decline herb's team option and try to resign him to 10-12m a year.

Herb will only be 3 years in the league next year, we did a 3 year contract purposely because players are a RFA for 3 years for 2nd round picks. We can use his option next year and still let him expire because he will still be a RFA

Yeah, Naji is the only player you have to give a new deal to next year if you want to do it as an RFA. Jose and Herb can wait another year.
