Hollinger has some great reasons for another team to trade for Jaxson. All the NBA executives here should follow his advice.

quote:

Jaxson Hayes was a starter for New Orleans as the Pelicans made their run to the playoffs last season. This year, with Zion Williamson back in the mix and Trey Murphy emerging, he’s had a hard time getting on the court. Missing time with a preseason elbow injury didn’t help, but Hayes has only played 44 minutes all season. He collected DNPs for nine straight games until finally entering in garbage time of Monday’s scrimmage against the Warriors’ JV squad, brought in as the closer to protect a 41-point lead with seven minutes left.

Hayes doesn’t fit the current iteration of the Pelicans, but last season was proof of concept for him as a poor man’s version of John Collins, a rim-running big who can also step out and make the occasional 3. He’s on the final year of his rookie deal, making $6.8 million, and the Pelicans are already over next year’s tax line, so it seems hugely unlikely he’ll be back. Yes, he has his weaknesses, but he’s only 22, and he could help somebody. One hopes one of the rebuilding teams takes a look at him before the year is out.

Jaxson Hayes is very good, should definitely fetch a first round pick…

Good. Time to wrap up this failed experiment.

I mean, he proved last season that he could be a quality starter, right? And he'd be a key contributor this season too, except that he's stuck behind Zion and Trey and can't get on the court -- and that unfortunate preseason injury.

That definitely sounds like a guy with a lot of value.

If I’m the pistons I’m no doubt taking a chance on him.

He’s done here, but I think he could develop into a servicble backup for many years.

With Stewart, Bagley, and Duren, I don't think the Pistons would even be interested.

He has a ton of potential but the chance of reaching it remains low.

We have to get rid of him since his chance of reaching his potential is 0% here. Teams knows this so it will be hard to get back anything for him of consequence.

I do not know of any setting he would for sure thrive. I think his best chance is just being on different teams/end of bench for awhile and soaking in all he can even if he's not playing. Then when he's in his mid to late 20s he can get a shot at a real run (injury, tanking, etc) and try to blossom.

Absolutely. He totally powered our late-season run to the playoffs. Any front office that wants to improve their own team should look to acquire that kind of leadership.

He will be a solid contributor on another team and could be a very good player if he matures by 26-27. But we ain’t got room at the inn right now

Lakers should trade their 27 and 29 unprotected picks for Hayes. He’s just what they need. He’s also beloved by everyone in the Los Angeles community.

The team he needs is the Spurs. Pop won’t deal with his immaturity and would set him in line.

Jax and Temple for Richardson would give us another wing defender that can knock down the 3 ball at a 40% rate.

That was going to be my suggestion too. I think he needs Pop to get into him and he could be a good player for them. They could definitely use a young big.
