not concerned but slightly disappointed we've not seen glimpses of difference-making play from NAW. it'll come

NAW just needs to get stronger. He has a very high basketball IQ along with a shot. Year 3 NAW will be an allstar. Jax and Zion will be cornerstone superstars.

Last night during the broadcast Joel said he led all centers in FT%.

Different stat. Joel was saying that he is leading in trips to the line per minute (not the % of those that he makes).

He’s a rookie guard and like most rookies in this class, they are struggling finding their footing early on. People are way too impatient.

I like NAW. You can go back as early as the draft thread and see i've supported NAW. At the time I would have preferred Kevin Porter Jr, but i'm not impatient with him and haven't complained about him at all. But i'm kind of the one being patient in not expecting him to go from not beating out Frank Jackson to an all-star/one of the best guards in the league in two years. There has been nothing that has indicated to me that he is an all-star, that's all. He was the 17th pick, I wouldnt expect him to be an all-star 2 1/2 years into his career.

I missed it, but I assume Joel was talking about Free Throw Rate which is the number of FTA per FGA. Right now Hayes has a 74.2 FTr which is ridiculous and would lead the NBA if he played enough minutes to qualify. Here are the NBA leaders:
1. Jimmy Butler - 71.3
2. Rudy Gobert - 66.8
3. James Harden - 52.1
4. Giannis - 51.3

Last year Gobert lead with 73.3 followed by Deandre Jordan at 59.2. Hayes’ FTr is a big reason why the advanced stats love him so much

Collins is averaging 19 and 10 and is 22 years old. If Jaxson plays like that at 22, I think we'll all be satisfied.

Not that Jaxson and NAW should even be compared developmentally, but since it is being discussed: Jaxson throughout this season when given a challenge has learned and improved. His defense has gotten better, his patience, and just BB IQ has improved. He knows his role and is comfortable with it.

NAW has been slower in grasping what is to be his role. He is wildly inconsistent. Has he improved? Depends what game. His mind has not caught up to what he believes his skills are. He is not wildly athletic, so being crafty and wise is what NAW needs. He will get it.

Drafting Jaxson, or drafting NAW as your only rookie with potential and upside; who would it be?

I would go Jaxson.

practically same shot.

PJ Brown would be a very nice outcome for Hayes in 2 or 3 years.

Part of PJs game would be fabulous if hayes comes up to it.
Pj was all nba 2nd team defense 3 times over 5 years.

NAW doesn't have a role right now since his current form is a rookie version of Frank Jackson.

just because their stats are similar, it doesn't mean they have the same "form" or game. they are almost completely different players

NAWs inefficiency is troublesome. Lot of Pels bloggers fooled fans into thinking he was a certified dude.

If you watched any SL, he looked like that dude. Part of this was of course lesser talent, but also because a lot of talented guys (most of the lottery picks) didn't play.

I don't enjoy NAW's struggles, but he's a smart kid that looks to be able to affect the game in a few different ways

It’s not about their stats. There is a role that is needed - energy guard when Jrue or Lonzo is on the bench to close out quarters and provide any bonus they can to scoring load.

Right now Frank is the more trustworthy choice apparently.

NAW has shown elite ability to create opportunities on offense. He can get to the rim at will, and his passes are very crisp and set up teammates well. The problems are:

1) He does not finish well at the rim.

2) He commits too many turnovers.

Both of these are fixable over time. In particular, I think that NAW can improve #1 with some time in the weight room this offseason. The reason for optimism, though, is that NAW has all the tools needed to be a great PG -- he just needs to work and develop those tools to be ready to contribute at a high level.

rushing.

Maybe time for g league?
I doubt he "figures it out" coming off bench a few minutes here and there.

Weve seen guys like this before. Gifted with fast twitch but have no clue how to position for a safe, tried and true angle of shot they've practiced.
