Is the "aggressive pursuit" of a draft pick about trading Pierre?

A poster on PR that has posted inside info in the past (Ryno's herniated disc) started a thread yesterday about our offseason plans. In a followup post he said all the rumors about the team trying to get back into the first round have to do with packaging that pick in another trade. He (the insider, not the source) speculates that Pierre is the trade bait they are attempting to use.

I'd say picks 21-30 are up for grabs because the teams in that range either have multiple 1sts, have expressed interest in Pierre in the past, or are good teams in win now mode so an offensive spark plug on a cheap unguaranteed deal may be more desirable than a project on a bigger, multiyear deal. So assuming Pierre can get you a pick in the late 20s, what kind of player would that lead to?
Seems like it'd be more than enough to get Wilson Chandler or Martell Webster. Maybe that's the plan, trade a pick and filler for a SF rather than Rivers/Withey and filler.

Just wanted to give another update. I was asking about the rumors involving us getting a draft pick, and he said the draft pick would basically just be used as an asset and that the goal would be to trade it. I think what might happen is we trade Pierre for a pick and then if a team is targeting a certain guy we could package the pick and get someone we wanted.
Sounds very Dell-like.

Some other things from that post:
Well it would be a an upgrade over the shittiness we had at Center this last year, I'm really not a fan of Hawes. Asik is a fine player, but I'd rather use the recources it woulk take to attain, and pay him on a SF.
If we can't retain Morrow, then no way in hell should we trade Anderson.

The first thing he told me, which was a few weeks ago, was that two guys we might target this offseason were Spencer Hawes and Omer Asik. (Personally don't love either, definitely not Hawes given the money he'd get).

He said that Dell did not seem to think we'd be able to bring back Morrow (not sure if it's because we have other plans or he wants a more lucrative pay day). He also said we do not want to trade Ryan at all, but Dell thinks at some point we may have to, in order to improve team.

I don't want to swallow the poison pill for Houston unless they sweeten the deal. Let those goatfrickers choke on their own medicine.

Sweet. Jesus.
"We can't defend the paint. Let's bring on another stretch big who is a turnstyle on defense. Brilliant"

No kidding. Hawes, to me, is a slightly more talented Jason Smith. I'll pass...

That's the key. Conference and division rivals that you don't help out so easily. Not for a tough but limited center, at least. That's why people are chirping for Parsons as part of any Houston deal, which changes things considerably.

I didn't post the other stuff because it sounded like "we're interested in everyone that's available" GM source speak. I do think the "don't think we can keep Morrow, and we're looking for a 1st to trade for someone" is more telling of where the FO thinks the team is and what might actually happen this offseason.

The Morrow statement sounds like Demps isn't ready to offer him what the market will. We'll see what he gets and where. Morrow is exactly what you need next to Evans, but I'm not sure they fit with Rivers. I think they slightly overvalue Rivers, though, so I think they'd let Morrow walk before moving Rivers and making space.

It's more a question of able than ready. The team doesn't have the cap space/exceptions available to both fill the holes at 3/5 and give Morrow more than $2 million.

A later post in the thread:
So, the source is Dell himself...
Tyreke...

The reason I have this source is because I know information I can share and information I can't. Also don't think it's possible for my source to be fired haha.
Maybe you should stick to trying to get people to want Beasley. I'll make sure to tell Dell of your ideas bro. I'm sure he'll get a good laugh.

No, Demps can definitely be fired. If the clue is truthful rather than intentionally misleading to protect his source, it suggests a family member. I wonder how old Demps' kids are. Or maybe it's Rita/Gayle/Tom.

One thing that thread got me thinking about was the idea of rebuilding teams not wanting Gordon. I think that depends on what part of the rebuild they are in. If they tanked this year, they may be loaded with cheap young players and looking to improve. That sounds like the ideal situation for a player like Gordon.
Their contracts will line up in a way that Gordon doesn't damage their corps. They'll overpay a bit in salary, but he will be able to take a prominent position on a young team, then they'll have him in a contract year. It isn't an angle I've thought to much about before, but he may be more movable than we thought.
It would take a multi-team trade, but it's not impossible that we could use Gordon positively in a trade.

IIRC, Tyreke has a brother that acts as his "Manager" or in some role like that. Wouldn't be surprised if it was him...

Would Tyreke really know any of this? Most players seem to have 2 attitudes about team strategy, either it's not something they think about much outside of how it affects them, or they are a diva star player who'll be offended if they aren't kept in the loop. Also, the poster's avatar is a very young Austin Rivers, so I think he's more fan of the team than Tyreke entourage member.

Most likely not. Stuff like Anderson's back, maybe, but I'd doubt they would be discussing the draft pick thing with Tyreke. I was just going along with the username/join date that was pointed out, and the fact that his source "couldn't be fired."

Yeah, that's kind of creepy.

i'm sure they are trying to get a pick
pierre jackson has little or no value however...certainly not a 1st round pick

Well that's not true

You think someone will offer a 1st rounder for last years 2nd rounder that hasn't played a minute in the nba? Or just no value in general?

Teams do seem to value picks more than they used to under the new CBA, but picks in the 20s still have a very low success rate and guaranteed salary to count against your cap. OKC for example has 2 picks in the 20s and they already have multiple projects on the roster (Perry Jones and Thabeet). If they thought Pierre Jackson was an NBA caliber scorer, surely they'd find more value in paying him $500k than some project at #29 $900k.
Also, the Clippers view on paying the Luxury Tax may be very different now, but before Sterling went down, I could definitely see them giving up #28 for Pierre.

They all saw him carve up the d-league. Its not out of the question for a team to think he might have shown better potential there than they could get with the 28th pick
