Do you think that he shouldn't do interviews like this??
I don’t. What does it accomplish? I love what he doing, I just don’t see any value in telling anybody about it. It’s a lose/lose. If he comes out and dominates, then the questions will be “Well, what took him so long?” But even worse, what if he has just another regular Zion season? Then what? He can’t do any more, he just is who he is.
I get fed a ton of YouTube motivational videos talking about channeling adversity and embracing solitude, going away, and turning yourself into a monster. None mention announcing to the world what you’ve been doing a month before you can demonstrate it. Or talk at all. You just show up on the day and start doing the damn thing. And if you’ve really done the work, it will be more than apparent. This is an interview/article best served coming out towards the end of the season or even after in retrospect.
Granted, I didn’t read the article, just the excerpts posted here. Maybe my perception is incorrect. But him feeling the need to do it suggests he’s not that confident that it will work. Like he’s trying to convince everyone, maybe mostly himself. Show up, dominate, finish 1st team All-NBA, lead the Pels to a deep playoff run, looking like a totally different dude, and THEN do this piece on how he transformed himself.
Make no mistake, this makes me very optimistic, and I do believe he’s set to have his greatest professional season. Again, I just don’t see the benefit of doing this a month before the season starts. But it’s not like it’s some unforgivable sin. I’d just prefer he had waited. Oh well, may not matter in the slightest. I am excited to see, though, no doubt.

Here’s my theory on Z. I think Zion really does and always has wanted to be great. As far as this vengeful comment and his similar comments in previous offseasons that Pels fans have grown tired of, I think he really means them in the moment, and I think he really has put in the work to back these comments up *in spurts*. His career has been a rollercoaster with highs and lows as far his weight, attentiveness on the court, and his defense. I think there is something behind the scenes causing these lows that we are not aware about that is holding him back. Maybe it’s a food addiction or a porn/sex addiction (thinking about the Moriah Mills episode) or something else. I truly believe he means what he says and does the work but there’s something else going on that causes these lapses we see that lead to weight gain, injury, seeming to not care, etc.. That’s my theory at least

It's just great Zion finally accepts and embraces the team and culture in the same season BI is starting to separate from it. Is this a #pelslife

Take a break. If people want to be optimistic, let them. Dude appointing himself the hall monitor of not allowing people to be excited about their best player. Maybe I’m just speaking for myself but genuinely no one cares if you’ve been burned by believing in Zion before. We’re fans, literally what else is there to do but support the team?

If Zion is truly in shape and committed and stays healthy it won’t matter. A fit Zion and Murray with a pool of shooters is going to be fun and successful.
If Ingram is in the pool the team could be special. If Ingram refuses to be in the pool and pout this could still be our best ever team on the back of healthy Zion and Murray.

These same people were posting their Zion MVP tickets last season too, heck some of em are at least showing the Zion MVP tickets from last offseason too, which proves my exact point perfectly.
I can only speak for myself, but i'm pretty sure other people are placing these bets for the same reason i do. They like placing bets on their local team and players.
I also bet we'd win our in season tourney pool, and that Dejounte Murray would be the clutch player of the year, and Herb DPOY, and Nussmeier for Heisman, and i'll bet for LSU to win the CWS as well.
I'm not doing that b/c i'm super excited about what i've heard regarding those people. I just like placing somewhat realistic bets on my hometown team/players. I have no other bets for MVP, or DPOY, or Heisman, nor will i bet for anyone else to win the CWS. It's literally just a homer thing.
I literally said when i posted the screen shot of the bet, that i don't care about what Zion has to say, and that he needs to prove it to me when the season starts. I've been here a while. You know damn well i'm not buying the hype.
I don't think Zion has a chance in hell at winning the MVP, but as a wise man once said.....

Exactly. Despite shel's "Prove it!" silliness, we already know what a healthy 290 lb. Zion can do, and it's pretty amazing. A healthy 275 lb. Zion is going to be incredible. I don't need to wait until opening night to know that, even if I have to wait until then to see it.
All the leadership stuff, attitude change is all secondary.

You know what? You're right. There's literally no difference at all between the Zion pics we've seen recently and Zion pics from previous offseasons. It's all fake camera tricks, and he's still 300 pounds.

Definitely never heard that last offseason
Again, not saying it won't happen but it's hilarious that you were so certain it was happening last offseason and was wrong and now you're cocky and arrogant about it again. THAT is the funny part.

Got it. You definitely won't say that Zion optimists are wrong, and you won't say that we are right, but you will say how highly exalted you are above it all that making any predictions at all is a lowly idea for mere mortals. Your fandom is so advanced as to be above any excitement about the upcoming season whatsoever.
Uh, congrats?
Uh, congrats?

Seriously, Shel, you should take a step back and try to figure out how your life got so pathetic and miserable that what gives you joy now is to mock Pels fans for being excited about the upcoming season.
You weren't always like this.
You weren't always like this.

Congrats on the weirdo post though?

You're trying to break down and make all these proclamations and basically outsmarting yourself and just looking dumb.
Maybe what I said is exactly what I meant and nothing more and you're wasting your time trying to he the smartest person in the room and failing at it.
I noticed how you didn't call out the other posters for mocking the one dude wasn't all super realistic. Funny how that works... Just hypocritical towards the folks that believe what you believe and they get a free pass but then you call out others for doing the exact same thing but in the opposite direction because they don't agree with you.
Just a laughable look all around for you right now.
I'd say you can do better but I don't think you can. It is what it is.

Realism? "Realism" implies an expected reality. What realism did you express? All that I've seen are cynicism and pessimism. Insulting fans for being excited about the upcoming season is not "realism".
Are you asserting that Zion will not be significantly better than before? Please say so. You don't actually have the guts to say that, though, do you? You just want to hint at it while sneering down your nose at those of us who are willing to predict that he will be significantly better.

You're just legit talking nonsense right now. Nothing you're saying is based in reality. Weird.
If you want to join me in the real world for a rational discussion, let me know. You're far, far away from that right now now.
quote:I've literally said what I've asserted in this thread. Again, you are not making sense. I have no clue how to make that any more clear to you right now. You're saying random shite that does not remotely jive with what has happened in this thread. Again, if you want discuss rationally, then start making rational thoughts.
Are you asserting that Zion will not be significantly better than before?
quote:Reading is fundamental tough guy. I've said my thoughts in this thread. You're too unhinged to realize it.
Please say so. You don't actually have the guts to say that, though, do you?
quote:I can just repeat myself a 3rd time but that's getting boring. You're just saying a bunch of words that make no sense given that I've given my opinion already, despite you trying to laughably play tough guy while telling me I won't do the thing I already did. Oof.
You just want to hint at it while sneering down your nose at those of us who are willing to predict that he will be significantly better

This has been my issue with the article. Saying he's out for vengeance makes it seem like he still isn't owning that he allowed himself to be out of shape before. It's just a weird message to try to make. I really hope he has turned the corner.
