We sweep the Portland trailblazers with rondo, a team that just made the conference finals. If we had rondo in new Orleans this year we probably make conference finals. Id much rather have a winning record and in the playoffs, than tanking for rookies.

Why would you want the poor mans version of rondo over actually having rondo?

Teams literally sag off of him and let him. He’s not a legit threat from three. Just because you can go on basketball reference and see a % it doesn’t mean jack shite. Do you actually watch the games? A set wide open three at that % doesn’t mean you can shoot a three. He’s also a terrible defender at this point, and outside of the playoffs last season he wasn’t that good on the Pels.

I’m being downvote for saying Rondo isn’t a 3 point shooter. Shows the casual basketball fans have arrived on this board

Casual fans all over the board. Rondo was a negative on the court for the regular season, but he had that one series and can occasionally hit a wide open three where a team sags off and let’s him. So let’s sign him.

Let’s include other factors:

-Since 2010-11 he’s played in more than 70 games in a season one time
-He’s a liability on defense
-He isn’t a good shooter.

You want him here for intangibles and at a cheap rate, fine. But he isn’t what he we NEED.

Rondo is washed, he's one of the worst defenders in the NBA. I'm guessing you didn't watch him this season?

He wasn't very good with us 2 seasons ago, and he was MUCH worse this past season.

He'll be 34 next season, he's only going to get even worse.

Elfrid is better going forward, it's really not that close IMO.

Right, and we're not a team who can rely on a guy mailing it in for the regular season and just hope he'll become Playoff Rondo, when his shitty regular season may cost us a shot at the playoffs.

He's just a bad player now and is aging, so it won't get any better.

If a team is completely sagging off you better be a 40% guy.

He did this on 3 3PA per game, and you wanna act like this dude is shooting the lights out. lol

Ive actually watched them play in san Antonio 6 years in a row now

Actually that's exactly what it means, cant fake a three point shot

Your being downvoted for trying to argue a 36% three point shooter can't shoot the three

And he only takes them when they are wide open.

literally only took 4 shots last season where a defender was closer than 4 feet. 0 the season with us. When a defender is between 4-6 feet from Rondo, meaning minimally contesting, his percentage drops to around 32%.

If you are a defense and can force a Rondo-led Pelicans team into a shot, right next to a Rondo long two is going to be a Rondo three. Ideally, he is not a guy you ever want taking shots.

I understand you're trying to make a point, but you know damn well Rondo cant shoot. He's shot under %.300 more times than he has over. In a 15 year career, he's shown that he cant shoot. And %90 of the three's he shoots, teams are begging him to shoot them. If there was a separation stat, Rondo would lead the league in furthest distance from a defender. Like %5 of his three's are contested.

Elfrid is a poor mans rondo, rondo can do everything elfrid can do just better

Have you looked at theit stats? They have the same stats except Elfrid is 25 and not 150 years old. Elfrid still has room to improve and will have more time in this system under his belt.

Ideally, you want neither for a team anchored around AD, Jrue, and Zion. three players that can't really shoot the three reliably or efficiently.

But if you are forced to make a choice I would probably go Payton. He's younger, plays more consistently through a regular season, and will be cheaper than Rondo.

Rondo on his best night is better than Payton on his, but Rondo is inconsistent, expensive, and on a fairly sharp decline.

You pursue and take Darren Collison or Patrick Beverly over either though.

Shocking bc he’s played here, Orlando and Phoenix. Payton has really dragged down some great organizations

Ideally you want a versatile lineup that can play multiple positions, can open up spacing, and can’t be played off the floor (Rondo).

We don’t need a primary ball handler. We will have multiple ball handlers/distributors. If AD is here I really want Brogdon. Would give the Pels a fantastic shooter with length, who can distribute and play defense. Jrue, Brog and Zion even AD to some extent can all grab a rebound and go.
