I think people are going to be initially disappointed in FA

We aren’t going to get the big names people know. With the influx of posters and new fans that haven’t followed basketball long, there’s going to be a lot of kvetching about the quality of players we are bringing in.
I think that Griff will be looking for value, for under appreciated guys, and I also think he will make 1 or 2 overpays for guys because he values their locker room presence but also has to overpay it get shorter deals.
Good locker guys nearing the end of their careers. Maybe a Euro. And guys we think “suck” on reclamation projects that Langdon thinks we’re undervalued by their former team and the league.
In the long run it will be short term contracts for high character guys, vets near the end, maybe a Euro or two, and guys that no one really wants.
These moves could turn out to be smart as hell, but in the short term, I think a lot of the casual new fans will lose their shite. It’s kind of like picking Offensive Line in the nfl. It’s not sexy and the casuals hate it. They want sexy.
But sometimes it’s what builds an actual team.

I would be extremely excited if we went this route. Still haunted by overpaying Solo on Day 1 in 16

I just hope we aren’t trying to sign more Solomon hills this year. I remember everybody when we signed him.

Very well put. There is a lot of cap open, but even more FA available. The money is going to be top heavy and dry up quick. Tier 1 guys will get the max, but so will some Tier 2. There will be some head scratching overpays in the first few days from teams that miss out, but want to make a splash, or see their window open this year and hope to be TOR. If we can’t get that perfect guy, I hope the Pels ride out that initial wave of overpays and come away with 3 veteran pieces on great deals. Or maybe a couple big FA linger for a bit and we take advantage of a couple RFA cap holds while teams hope to land a big fish.
Whatever happens, for the first time in years I actually feel like they know what they are doing and are in control. No need for any panic if we don’t come out hot

I think many people, me included, are equally worried about what the Lakers do as they are the Pels.
Their FA may have more long-term impact on the future of the franchise than anything the Pels do.

I just hope it isn't as gross as that shite that MM just tweeted out as his "educated guess"
I'm not expecting superstars at all, but I would hope we'd land someone worth rotation minutes.

The only thing that can be controlled is what the Pels do. What the Lakers do is what they do. What they do now isn’t indicative of what they will be in 2025.
Our development is what’s important.

this board is going to be flooded with "griff sucks what is he doing" posts after the first few days of FA go by and we haven't signed tobias harris or al horford

Just looked since you mentioned it. I started a thread on Nando de Colo a week or so ago on here so he wouldn’t be surprising given the Langdon connections.
Kaminsky isn’t making much and he did finish the season strong. I think people would melt a bit there but I wouldn’t consider it the end of the world considering the contract.
Dudley making 8 million per year??? Wtf? That dude will be lucky to make 4 this year. He’s pretty much done and would just be a vet presence guy.

All I want are signings that I don't have to talk myself into liking dollar/length wise

this is a very subtle "we're so much smarter than all these newbies" thread.

It wasn’t intended to be but I see your point.
I do find that people that don’t follow basketball much just know star names and tend to melt more on the internet when their team doesn’t get one. They wouldn’t realize that the Nets or Clippers have built solid teams and waited for their chance to sign a star.
Patience is not a virtue online.

I still think we are getting at least one big contract. Only because of us trading the 4th pick for more picks and cap space and not a star like Griff said. I think Griff tried to get a star via tade the 4th pick but couldn't find one. His back up plan is to clear up space and just get one in FA

If we pursued de Colo I think we would both have to defer to Langdon in that one right? I doubt either of us has the requisite knowledge.
Frank I don’t like much as a player but I do see a lot of people mentioning his last 20 games last year and thinking he may be undervalued. It certainly wouldn’t be in my top 5 choices.

Yes, even if the Lakers sign one of Irving/Leonard/Butler and win a title in the next year or two that will not have any impact on the way I view the trade or the Pelicans future.
I say this as ST holder since Davis was drafted, I'm fine with a signing two decent, short-contract vets, not spending all of our cap space, and watching an entertaining, mostly competitive Pelicans team next year that misses the playoffs and gets another Top 10 pick next year.

That is true but if we end up not even in the running for guys like Joe Harris/Dedmon/Looney/Barnes then what’s the point of having $30 million in cap?

I think novice people sometimes understand they are novice educated regarding talent. It's just not the newbies that get their panties in the wad if a big enough fish isn't caught for their liking.

For sure, I guess I just don't see backup PG as a huge need. IMO, our needs in order are a starting caliber big, a backup wing/combo forward that can shoot, and lastly a backup guard. We already have 2 players (Jrue and BI) that can be our main ball handlers or facilitators in short spurts when Lonzo is on the bench.

To be honest I wouldn’t be mad if we didn’t sign anyone. I like the players we have they are young and cheap. If this team we have now can Compete and win some games next season and nationally the narrative about the front office and training staff changes free agents will be lining up to be a pelican
