Cardinals? Has nothing to do with NOLA either, might as well leave it the Hornets.

Really, a catholic name for the city of new orleans has nothing to do with NOLA and a "matching" name with the saints. THis ain't a fricking bird here.

You really think the logo will be an old guy in a big hat rather than a red bird if they go with Cardinals?

And how many Cardinals has New Orleans had and/or produced?

I think that is the sole intent behind the name.

Saints are timeless, sanctified individuals. Cardinals are much more political in nature.

I think you are failing to compare this idea to other alternatives while looking at this from a mass marketing perspective, which is what this branding this is all about: mass marketing.

Right?

That, pleasing the owner, and not alienating the locals.

Clearly, the hypothesized reverie of `the city' to Tom Benson's ownership was a figment of some fans' imaginations, and certainly is a figment of their wallets' imaginations.

A new brand will have the same nearly null effect either way.

No I'm not. I understand the marketing idea quite well. I'm not stating I love the idea, but i do see logic behind the idea and with due time, it could be an idea that could work. I'd liken it vaguely similar to the boston celtics a bit.

Time is exactly what will make any brand that fails to offend, including Hornets, be perfectly fine.

Incorrect, it's just very rare that you understand points.

I'll take it a step further, what about "Cardinals" is in any way more representative to New Orleans than any other member of the Catholic political system? What about Popes? Too big? Bishops? Too small. Priests? Oh, no, little boys. Hmm, maybe Pontiffs! Hell, let's just go with God, because Catholics believe in God.

Yes. Combine that with the far more common use of the term, and you get a messy brand.

There was a rumor that someone with specific knowledge knew the team was not the name of a current major sports team, whatever that means. Discount Cardinals even further depending on how much you believe that rumor.
