How refreshing is it to finally

have a coach that will call a timeout when the other team is on a run? One of my biggest pet peeves with Gentry along with his horrible rotations. With all the close games we had last year, I can see just the change in how TOs are called making us ~5 games better.

What use to piss me off was team would commit three (3) turn overs in a row, a silly foul, jack up a bad shot and Gentry would jump up and start yelling at the refs. He never held the players accountable.

I'm excited about plays out of timeouts...Alvin's plays ended in turnovers at a greater than 50% clip

I think the larger problem was he only had one solution to every problem(go smaller, find more shooters) then couldn’t do anything but yell about execution when inevitably and predictably other facets of the game suffered as a consequence of the choice to always prescribe the same solutions to every problem.
You can’t put 5 bad rebounders on the floor, ask 4 guys to leak out into the fast break the moment the other team puts up a shot, then whine about execution when the other team is gutting you with second chance points. Tell everyone to pick up the pace in the face of a habitual team turnover problem then rage about turnover and how the team is getting gutted in transition when you are constantly putting players in that vulnerable position via scheme and personnel and not actually adjusting your team strategy to reduce live ball turnovers.

Y'all make some great points here that just solidify that we are headed in the right direction as a franchise. So excited that we made a change at HC. I was very worried Griff would keep Gentry and we'd have another season of no accountability.

What's up with these bad titles? Finish the sentence please.

How refreshing is it that we do not have to hear a post game interview with the phrase "need for pace" a hundred times.

We were down early... calls timeout and we never were down again. These things never happen for the Pelicans with Alvin or most times Monty

Right like what is the point of having them if you don’t use them. It’s like just watch Pop take timeouts. The players and organization are trying to be professional but still stuff keeps coming out how bad of a coach Alvin was inadvertently.

I'm not sure it's truly inadvertent, and even if it is that just shows how many and how bad the flaws were.
Everyone still here only played for him for 1 year, so I don't think they have any loyalty to him, even if he was a nice guy. I think everyone here knew he was a shite coach.
He was the absolute worst type of coach you could have for the team we had/have. These are young players that need structure and guidance, not vets that know what's up. We were leaning on Jrue and JJ and neither have been true leaders (even if JJ did his best to teach).
Maybe Al's "system" could work for a team like the Lakers, but it was always doomed to fail for a team looking to build through youth.

Uncle Al lo
Yes. I knew something was off when guys (Lonzo cough) where taking step back 3’s and air balling the shot. It felt like a chucky cheese pg-13 movie.

Man, he had zero feel for proper substitutions.

That's because his sub policy was, "Who has fresh legs that can push the pace?"
fricking pathetic.

Way fewer reckless unforced turnovers so far too. The way we couldn’t correct that last year was just sad.

I think Alvin ate his boogers. Very nice guy, but again ate his boogers.
