One thing that is not being discussed on the national media is whether AD is actually the superstar that seems to be assumed as a given. I’m in no way saying he is a bad player like a beaten down ex would say but there’s definitely an argument that he isn’t an Alpha. It may work out now bc Lebron can be the alpha for their team but I think the media is setting up to fail with the hype that is occurring since he doesn’t have a strong history of consistently carrying his team to the playoffs without talent around him.

The other item for discussion is that AD had been coddled by the local media so far in his career. He’s about to be the sidekick of Lebron which means that whenever things are not going great, it will be his fault.

It will be interesting to watch because i see a lot of ways things can go radically wrong for them.

I hope this year goes so poorly for AD that he decides to go elsewhere next year. I honestly don't think its too far fetched to happen. Lebron seems insanely difficult to play with.

Not until season 2, when he has signed a long term contract IMHO.

They COULD do it before then if he screwed up bad enough but it would just destroy the Lakers that much worse to overpay him then let him walk.

What about a master plan that was devised in the griffin/AD meeting to make this trade with LAL and then just sign with NOP when his contract is up next year....

I think that’s the argument for him being a good fit in LA, at least next year. He won’t have to be an Alpha playing with LeBum.

That WOULD play into the Hawks trade in the #4 pick thread where we end up with Kent Bazemore’s $18m contract.

Bazemore and Hill both expiring clears about $32m in cap space, though there would be other holds out there too like Ingram.

That’s roughly a max slot and we would have the trade material to dump players to make more room.

Everything looks different with or without the pel glasses on, but it easy to see what you didn't like in AD now that he is gone. He constantly had games where he would light it up for 1 quarter and then go scoreless in he next. And when the big plan became the make AD into a 3 pt threat, it just made me cringe every time he touched the ball from the outside.

Other former Pels have similar flaws that showed up elsewhere.

Ask Clipper and Rocket fans about CP3’s fourth quarter meltdowns / disappearing acts.

They will be up his arse until he signs the Supermax. Then he’ll request a trade 2 years into the deal because he can’t handle scrutiny

The difference is that Frank Vogel is not Pop or Nick Nurse and Pelinka is not Masai Ujiri.

I don’t see smart plays being made by the Laker coaches or front office.

The 3rd or 4th game in November when he heads to the locker room in the 2nd or 3rd quarter, they're gonna start getting restless.

The moment a little boo-boo keeps him out for three games.

Something mentioned in another thread which deserves to come up here...

Apparently AD’s dad makes Lavar Ball look harmless. He would storm into the locker room after bad losses and had cursed out Monty, Dell, AND Gentry on various occasions.

The only reason that it hadn’t hit the press before now was that there wasn’t a lot of basketball press in New Orleans.

Try that shite in LA with LeBron. PLEASE. I’m begging you.

Alpha or not, before everything went to hell, he was being talked about as arguably the best player in the league. Embiid is an alpha, but he still has to rely on Simmons for him to be at his best.

The CP3 narrative reminds me somewhat of how people used to talk about Dirk. Dirk was soft and wasn’t clutch, except he always played through injuries or came back sooner than expected. And he was consistently one of the most clutch guys in the league.

People have put that label on CP3 now, of not being clutch. Thing is, guy has been really good in the playoffs. Also, like Dirk, he has consistently been one of the most clutch guys in the league for most of his career.

Perception is reality. Kobe was perceived as being the most clutch guy just because that’s how he carried himself. People see what they see what they want to see.
