you mean when he tweeted "are you kidding me?" after the trade was vetoed? that's all I saw him say during that time
And threatening to file a suit alleging collusion. But yes, his response to the trade falling through is exactly what I'm talking about.

And remember we were all pissed too
Speak for yourself. You can go back and look. I had my most epic meltdown when that trade was announced. It was a terrible trade from the start. We gave away the best player in the trade, and didn't even get back the second best player. I remember everyone saying that it was a good trade because we were going to flip Odom for Iggy, which was downright laughable.

Deron Williams and CP3 didn't completely screw over their small market teams like LeBron did
This has been refuted. The Cavs got 2 first round picks in the sign and trade with Miami.

the culture of the NBA now is NY or LA
Historically, its always been LA. They've been to 30+ finals.
It is funny that the guy who gets the most shite (LBJ) went to a smaller market for less money to play with his friends.
I'm not saying the Decision show was smart or right. Just that he gave up money and big market to play where he wanted. Just a stunning event. Not sure any superstar has ever done that in the NBA.

true, I meant it in more of a flashy city kinda way. Its always the excuse why we can't get stars.

My bad. I agree. NBA is tough for small markets in FA.
I will say every title team I can think of has had at least one franchise player who was drafted by that team. The big cities can get FAs and spend on role players, but even they need a homegrown star.

Yeah, it's traditionally the Lakers, Boston, Chicago and more recently Miami and NY/NJ.

Hmmm, do Kobe and Dirk count? Because Kobe and Dirk were "drafted" by different francises. But I see your point.
Miami: D-Wade
Boston: P. Pierce
Spurs: Duncan, Parker, Ginóbili & Robinson
Chicago: Jordan & Pippen
Detroit: Tayshaun Prince?
Houston: Hakeem Olajuwon

Some will disagree but I count Dirk and Kobe. Instant draft day trades are basically drafting that player. Kobe and Dirk were Hornets and Bucks(?) for about 90 minutes.
The Pistons are the only team that didn't draft their franchise player. They were just such a weird team. Very good, but so odd.
Edit: nice catch on them.

Here is the link from the Paul article. It talks more about the rise of "super teams" and the possibility of a Paul/Howard pairing in 2013.

As it currently stands, the Clippers are a closer approximation of the tragically flawed 2011 or 2009 Hornets than the successful 2008 iteration, which wasn’t a legitimate title contender in the first place. The 2012 Clips are certainly the best offensive group Paul’s ever been a part of, but their repeated and often farcical defensive failures have been their undoing. Teams don’t learn to play defense overnight, and the issues here are systemic. Chris Paul is on no more of a contender now than he was a year ago, and less a coaching swap or personnel overhaul during the summer, that won’t necessarily change next season either. Paul has his big market and fellow star running mate, but, frustratingly for the neutral basketball fan, serious title contention will ostensibly elude him for yet another season

It was subtle, but I was implying that Memphis is horribly coached.
They should have won this series in 5 games.

Here are a couple of articles on market size in the NBA.
The first one tries to debunk the idea that only big markets get players. It points out that outside of the top 5, the rest of the markets are pretty tightly packed.

Then this article (by Tom Ziller, one of the best in the business) points out that a large market doesn't mean wins, but it does mean profits.

The gap between the number of TV homes in #1 market New York and #5 market Dallas-Ft. Worth is 187% — virtually equaling the 188% gap between the number of homes in Dallas and #35 market Milwaukee. In other words, the markets are much more concentrated outside of the top five. Certainly, while New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Philadelphia are massive television markets, once you get past those four, the differences are not nearly as great

What ought to matter more in how much cash team owners take home: where their team is situated, or how well their team performs on the court? In the NBA, market size has a far larger impact on profit than winning percentage.

isn't it quite obviously unfair for Sterling to field a mediocre team for decades and rake in dough, while the Simon family, owners of the Pacers, struggle to turn a profit even in seasons in which they make the Finals?

Supposedly the lockout was supposed to change the business model to remedy this problem. frick if I know what's going to happen once the full effect of the new CBA is felt.

Remember, revenue sharing was deemed an "ownership" matter and not a topic for discussion during the lockout. I don't recall too many details about that plan, but I could easily be wrong.
From what I've heard, the new revenue sharing plan isn't where it needs to be for small markets. Maybe the harsher tax will help out with this?
