Two assistant coaching candidates under consideration for Van Gundy’s staff are Ime Udoka and Charles Lee, league sources told HoopsHype.

If true, those would be absolutely EXCELLENT hires. Both have been talked about as future HC candidates with Udoka interviewing for a few and Charles Lee being talked about a bunch.

Lee's main role with the Bucks is Player Development and is very highly thought of.

Ime Udoka was with the Spurs for a long time as both player and coach and spent the past year in Philly. He is a Defensive Coach.

Man, that would be great.

“It doesn’t move the needle for me,” one Western Conference assistant coach told HoopsHype. “I didn’t think Stan would get another job. I know they want structure and accountability, but a 61-year-old, non-former player connecting with a 20-year-old Zion, 22-year-old Lonzo Ball, and 23-year-old Brandon Ingram wouldn’t exactly be my move. Thought they’d push harder for Jason Kidd, personally.”

What was left out of the quote was the follow up question "Jason, do you always talk about yourself in the 3rd person?"

Microcosm of parenting in this generation. Players don’t need a friend as a coach. They need someone who they respect and can lead them. Too much friendliness can easily lead to insubordination or a lack of accountability.

Ingram has said he wants to be coached hard. Sometimes that's what players need.

I actually have no worries about Ingram. I think he is going to do really well with Stan. Everyone says and you can tell just by watching his broadcasts that SVG is an encyclopedic basketball mind. Ingram is going to appreciate that and will be picking his brain nonstop. BI is a hoops junkie.

I do think a younger assistant will be needed for fully connecting with Zion.

I just hope Zion is not a pussy man. We don't need more players coaches making him soft Ala AD again

I feel like Zions like that too. Most of our guys seem to be for a coach that pushes them. Only young guys I wonder that would not like that style are Zo and Hayes. Maybe not tho

JJ and Matt Barnes talked about how SVG was always good for stealing a game they shouldn't have won because he finds some advantage

I don't think he is. He literally took the game over in his first game. He was held back all year by the team. I remember AD's second year Monty made AD basically do "Leadership drills" at Summer League because he wasn't a leader. Zion doesn't seem like he needs that.

I worry hayes isn't gonna like it. He was pissed he missed the rookie game and threw a tantrum. Then I think he was quoted saying he feels his defense is pretty good and doesn't need much more. I don't think he'll enjoy being told he not as good as he thinks he is.

He didn't throw a tantrum, he acted like kids his age act, he bitched about it on social media.

It will be interesting to see what happens though, because based on what JJ's said, Stan will be very clear on what young players need to do to earn minutes. For JJ it pushed him to spend an offseason remaking his body to improve his athleticism and he believes that's what allowed him to make it in the league. Jaxon will either have that same drive to improve or he'll get traded.

i haven’t seen that tho I haven’t really looked but if that’s true just trade him while he has value. That false ego when you’re really not even good is only gonna hurt us and his development

That was in July when they still had Favors. And I agree with him.
