LINK

Here's a video showcasing why Hawkins is so special and why he is a weapon and not just a typical shooter who shoots a lot of 3s.

The video really explains how much the Pelicans have implemented for Hawkins in this offense and gives you an idea of why Hawkins is going to be a core player going into the future.

Really impressed after watching this. I know Trey is coming back and he should ideally get 28-30mpg at some point but Hawkins needs to continue to get steady minutes (20+ mpg) as he's too good to be left on the bench. He's already top 15 in 3 pointers made and fits in any lineup.

Watched it earlier today. Really good insight from the guy doing the film review

What I find hilarious when thinking about it is that at least a large portion of those plays were likely drawn up by Borrego for Trey, and when he got hurt they went to Hawk lol

I think Hawkins still gets nice minutes. Once he gets a little better on defense he has star potential. Pels really nailed the pick.

That’s steep at least for this year

For that to happen one of Herb, JV, Zion, or BI’s minutes have to go down. I see Trey probably sitting around 20-25

We actually did it a couple times last year when we were healthy.

Here's a snap of one of the games from last season
BI - 36.47
CJ - 35.49
Z - 33.59
Herb - 28.34
JV - 21.49
Trey - 28.11
Graham - 20.22
Jose - 14.16
Nance - 14.11
Naji - 6.03

So it's very possible to get Trey his minutes. He has to be priority off the bench.

I hear you but that’s also when you didn’t have Hawk at all and didn’t have Dyson needing the minutes he needs now. That’s gonna change the rotations a lot. We are a lot deeper now than we were then

Dyson probably loses most of his minutes. And will be used when Herb or Jose gets in foul trouble. His minutes are going to shrink by a lot. Probably the easiest decision to make at that point.

You can definitely give Hawkins those Graham's minutes. Again, you prioritize Trey's minutes first and foremost and worry about everyone else after. Now this is after he gets back in game shape/conditioning and shows he's ready to play big minutes.

Naji, not Dyson, should be the one to see his time split significantly. Not sure Willie will do that since he loves him, but he should. Dyson is the 2nd best defender on the team and we should try to develop him further.

Based on yesterday's substitution pattern, it points to Daniels losing minutes. Both Hawkins and Marshall were first off the bench. And Dyson didn't get in the game until Jose injuried himself at the end of the first quarter. So if Jose didn't get injured, Daniels minutes would be a bit less than the 14 he received.

We're playing to win games right now and Dyson will be firmly behind both CJ and Jose.

I agree 100%. If Naji is getting minutes at the expense of Dyson, that would be really disappointing.

So when do we give David griffin and co their flowers? Hawk, Trey, Dyson, Jose, and mutha frickin Herb. They’ve done a phenomenal job drafting and evaluating talent the past few years.

They’ve nailed the draft recently. The frick yo in the Kira and Jax year sucks, but here we are with a stockpile of great young players and two stars. I think healthy they can play with almost anyone. Hawkins legit looks like he has insane potential. About as high as I’ve been on this team in a while and I pray health can finally be on our side.

Trey, Herb and Jose are great picks. Hawk looks like he should be a great pick, but I'd like to see more of him. Jury is still out on Dyson, but his on-ball defense is awesome, and he's a solid rebounder.

I genuinely don’t see how anyone could watch Dyson this year and think the jury is still out, but that’s just me

Look at the rotation minutes tonight. If he’s still behind Naji and Jose, then even the coaching staff thinks Dyson is still a TBD.

Dyson's minutes largely went back to CJ and will stay that way. Dyson and Jose will be splitting about 10-12 minutes per game with Trey back.

As GREAT as he is on defense, he's too much of a liability on offense to steal minutes from Trey, Herb, CJ, or Hawkins. All 4 of those guys will get 20+ going forward.

His shooting splits are 41/25/63. Every category is worse than last year. He is a guard, so that is not good. At all.

When CJ was healthy and Dyson was in his projected role, he looked great. He was hitting 3s at a good clip, and his floater looked deadly. That spin move he was using got open looks. It seemed that his offensive game had really improved.

The problem came when CJ and Jose were both out, and Dyson had to take on almost all of the PG duties. That's really not a role that he's ready for, and I think that trying to do too much really caused his game and confidence to suffer.

I'm hopeful that returning to his planned role will enable him to recover the confidence and fearlessness that he was playing with in the first few games of the season.

Which is why I'm guessing that, with no CJ tonight, Willie starts Hawk in CJ's place and not Dyson. We'll see.
