G-League may have a seasonPosted by Soggymoss on 11/27/20 at 2:45 pm

One option for the forthcoming NBA G League season that has gained some traction, sources say, is a bubble concept in the Atlanta area that would cost NBA teams an entry fee in the $500,000 range
Not all 28 G League teams, under that proposal, would be expected to participate
I'm not sure how I would feel about entering. On one hand we could definitely get Kira alot of run there, but if we were to suffer an injury and need to call him up, it may be a bit of a PIA.
Not to mention the 500k entry fee maybe a little steep for alot of teams.

What does that 500k get each team?
Is it just a licence fee?
If so, Silver can go suck a fat one

The league is putting teams in a shitty spot with that one.
Already lost a ton of money and now they're putting them in a position to come off as cheap if they don't want to pay 500k to enter a g league bubble with a bunch of guys that will never sniff their teams.

The NBA spent $180 million on 4 months of the Disney bubble. I would imagine $500k is for creating a bubble environment in Atlanta.

I guess every owner is worth at least a billion
What's 500k to them really

Why does everyone seem to think Kira will play in the G League this year? I’m not saying there is no chance, but I think there is a much greater chance that he is with the big club, and a rotation player, than he plays a single game in the G League.

It really depends on how many minutes they expect out of Bledsoe. Is he going to play 30+ minutes or do they keep his minutes similarly to what he had in Milwaukee this past year. It’ll be interesting to see what SVG does with the rotation.

I don't think I've seen direct quotes, but I've seen lots of references to Langdon saying this year's draft pick would spend a good bit of time in the GLeague. That's predraft/Jrue trade so maybe the team depth changes the equation some.

His tune changed during the post draft presser. He said Lewis will be competing for playing time.

I'm sure everyone on the 16 man roster will be competing for playing time. I would hope so at least, don't want the team being complacent and playing guys just because they are older.

Barring injury, Kira will be behind Bledsoe, Lonzo and NAW at the 1.
Starting guards will be Lonzo and Bledsoe. I'm not going to call Lonzo a SG because some people here will flip, but Lewis isn't behind both of those guys at 1 spot (but is behind them at 2 spots).
You're also going to see Lewis get some run at SG this year.
And if Lewis lives up to his potential he is easily better than NAW, who will also get run at SG.
SVG isn't going to really run your classic PG/SG combo with this team. He said as much before he even got hired.
We basically have 5 guys for 2 spots, and the only one you can clearly label a true shooting guard is JJ. Bledsoe is the only true point. The other 3 are hybrid players or don't fit the traditional mold.

Like you said, that was pre-draft/trade before we even knew who we were picking (and were even sure we were keeping that pick).
Lewis is a little more play ready just because of his speed alone. You put him in as one of the backup guards and let him do his thing against the other team's 2nd team.

Bledsoe gets injured, Lonzo starts at the 1 with JJ or Hart at the 2.
NAW will be the main backup to the 1 spot.
Kira will only see minutes this year if he absolutely balls out and is head and shoulders above NAW in practice. SVG rarely plays rookies.

SVG was more willing to play his rookies when he was in Detroit both Stanley Johnson and Luke Kennard received playing time during their rookie season. I don’t think SVG is going to be reluctant to play Kira unless he struggles mightily. The kid has some skill sets that no one else on the team possesses. Kira will play if he displays competency in practice and when he gets out there on the court.

For reference I looked them up.
Kennard would be very comparable to Lewis. He was the 12th pick, played guard, played 73 games, started 9, and averaged 20 mpg. Not sure how nba ready he was considered in comparison with Lewis, but he'll be a good bench mark to compare as the season goes on.
Johnson was the 8th pick (so a little higher), played forward, played 73 games, started 6, and averaged 23 mpg.
SVG definitely doesn't seem to be another Byron Scott.

Nielsen has connections to Coach O.
