Say what you want, but I can't help think that Monty would have this team at 4-6. Gentry's not putting the players he does have available in a position to win. Instead, he's obsessed with running his system despite the personnel not being at all conducive to doing so. With a depleted lineup, you've got to play to your players strengths, not your coaching strengths.

NOLAbaby. You just hit the nail on the head in my opinion. Look, I understand we don't have everyone available, but we are 1-7 in games where AD played. AD is a top 5 player in this league. A damn corpse should be able to coach this team to a 500 record. He's too damn concerned about running his system rather than playing to win. If we want to make the playoffs this year, we need to get rid of him today. If our goal is to have a 20-25% shot of Ben Simmons then keep him around and we will get that shot.

You don't fire a coach ten games into the season with most of the roster missing for massive parts of it.

You also have no viable options(sans maybe erman) to replace him THEN you'd have to have that coach implement HIS system which takes time.

And no this team wouldn't be 5-5 or so under any circumstance.

I hope Gentry will make me eat my words, but I just don't see it now. Even if/when our roster gets fully healthy, it's going to take another 15 games to get the rust knocked off, system implemented, etc. By that time, it will be too late unless we learn to win some games at less than full strength.

You're dreaming to think this guy has a winning record under any circumstance. All I read was how great Gentry was going to be and that he was the architect of the GS Warriors offense (I guess everyone that spews that nonsense forgets that GS has the best shooter in NBA history) but Gentry is nothing but a retread.

My last coaching job was 3 years ago. I led a great bunch of kids to victory after victory. Their parents thought I was great. Will never forget my 6 and 7 year old city champ squadron.

Lol. Do you forget the Saints blowing nuts before Payton? One solid hire is not a pattern of success.

They should've hired Tom Thibodeau or at least tried, the guy won games with his star player injured. Demps zeroed in on Gentry because he brought grafts and charts to his interview to show that AD should shoot more 3's. The guy is an arse Clown that dresses well. Thibs has a winning percentage of 64% Gentry has a winning percentage of 47%. I'll break it down for you 64% is better than 47%. In Gentry's 12 years as a head coach he went to the playoffs 2 times, his first time they lost in the first round (that was with Detroit which was a shortened season due to the strike). Gentry's only successful season as a coach came with the Phoenix Suns in 2009-2010 when they reached the conference finals and lost. One good season and the rest terrible.

Gentry is a good assistant coach that is it. You are what your record says you are.

Give it a rest man. There were like 2 people on this board that were genuinely excited about Gentry before he was hired. This board was pretty solidly in favor of "is there anyone else?", with JVG a close 2nd. Did we try to find the positive once Gentry was hired? Yes, because most of us aren't miserable defeatists that won't be happy until everyone else is miserable too.

I think people went from excited about the idea of Thibs, to being scared off by some of the reports about how he drains his teams.

Tbh a lot of the reason why he was hired is his skin color. There been a lot of noise about the lack of black coaches in the NBA currently and I'd bet demps was getting tons of pressure from his mentors and others around the league.

Skin color has nothing to do with it. Get out with that.

There 5 black coaches in the NBA. 4 black GMs. Every black GM has a black coach. Only black coach without a black GM is the wolves coach who is only coaching bc of Saunders death. Either it's a huge coincidence or they're looking out for each other.
