This team is so much better when they utilize his offensive ability to punish smaller bigs and it frees up BI, CJ and Trey to hit open jumpers. Without Zion the Pelicans clearly have found their best alternative way to play and that is by getting the big man involved early and often. This might be unpopular with some of the Jonas haters but the film doesn’t lie. When he scores 20 we win.

Agreed its our best strategy when he's on the floor. Let him work in the post and kick it to open shooters on the wing if they bring a defender down to help against him. One on one, SA doesn't have anyone to defend Jonas on the low block.

He'll pick up two fouls in the first three minutes and sit until late in the second quarter.

We'll be down by 16 when he comes back in.

It's a tale as old as time.

the team is at its best when they play the complete opposite style of play the coach wants to play the most. at least Willie has realized this now

Only in certain games. Willie needs to understand how to decide BEFORE the game if Jonas will be an asset or liability. It’s not hard.

teams that utilize a big, but are undersized = feed Jonas

teams that don't utilize a big, but are not uber athletic = feed Jonas

sums it up

Trey Murphy on #Pelicans  emphasis to get ball in low post to Jonas Valanciunas (19 pts, 15 reb vs. Spurs): "It definitely helps, especially when we are playing against smaller teams. They have to double-team him, if not he is going to have 50. We played off of that advantage."

Jonas Valanciunas is averaging 11.0 post-ups (72.7% FG) in New Orleans' last 3 games, per LINK .

He averaged 4.4 post-ups (53.7% FG) prior to this stretch.

This comes with the caveat that he has done this against Sengun and Mamukelashvili. But it's been noticeable how much more the Pels have looked for him.
