We're going to have to agree to disagree, because IMO our biggest need is a defensive wing. We need someone that can contain the Tatum's, KD's and Lebron's.

2nd biggest is an alpha dog, someone to teach BI and Zion how to win.

Who on the team currently can run an efficient half court offense?

I realize that on paper it appears that defense is a bigger issue for this team than offense, but IMO a good offense makes a good defense and we don't have a good offense. IMO, turnovers and sloppy play on offense is what led to our defense being so terrible. Now, that isn't the only reason why our defense was terrible, but it is a large part of that.

ETA: IMO, you can add Covington to this team without taking away any players and this team is still pretty bad, because of the lack of a half court facilitator.

Ingram and Zion should be both efficient and effective enough to run the half court the majority of the time. With a good coach alone, the efficiency should be a lot better than last season.

As is right now Ingram, Zion and Jrue can all run the half court sets.

I’m not sure what’s so funny. Are you laughing because you think they don’t have the skills to do it? I’ve seen enough flashes last season that tells me they can. I see underdeveloped half court game based on poor coaching. You’re going to have to Ingram and Zion every opportunity to develop in the half court if you’re planning to invest in them for the foreseeable future.

Jrue is not good in half court offense. I know pick and roll isn't the end all, but he was 36th percentile as a pick and roll ball handler, which is terrible for someone who is supposed to be one of your main facilitators.

Am I taking crazy pills? Did you guys watch our half court offense last season?

Zion is TBD, and Ingram is developing skills in the half court, but is still mainly attempting to score for himself rather than facilitate the offense.

I'm laughing because I truly hope you are right, but I realize that this thread probably seems like I'm being very negative about the team's offensive prospects as currently constructed.

Hell NO! Went through Buddy experience. The thing nobody seems be paying attention too is we already can score. You don’t have Defense. & any thoughts of trading the best defender in basketball for another scorer stories all need to be axed !!

Someone give me the cliffnotes on this thread and why it is 3 pages long, doesn't seem deserving of that from the OP.

They can score, but they also had the second highest turnover rate in the NBA.

The last 1-2 pages has been a discussion on the Pels biggest need. 3 and D wing versus primary facilitator.

Again, your issues is with Gentry’s scheme in the half court. There’s way too freedom for the spacers/role players to make reads and move without discretion. You bring in a guy like SVG and He’ll tighten up the offensive sets and create a more disciplined hierarchy in the half court and suddenly, everything flows a lot better. Gentry is the bane of the issues and I’m willing to bet a lot of these issues that plagued the Pelicans last season will disappear with a coach who can and will get the players to buy in.

I hope you're right too.

In an ideal world, we keep Jrue and trade Lonzo.
BI and Jrue are your primary facilitators on offense. Thing is, we've seen this from Jrue and he's just not consistent enough with it. When he's on, he's an allstar, but he has just as many all star like games as he has put him on the bench games he's turning the ball over so much.
If you have a lineup of Jrue/BI/Zion, then the other two guys have to be able to be a threat from 3.

I like Covington, but I'd rather put precedence on 3 point shooting than defense for that position if Jrue is still on the team. Jrue can effectively guard any wing player in the league. Covington really isn't a good 3 point shooter.
Lonzo for Cam Johnson or PJ Washington would be a nice trade for us.
I think Meyers Leonard is a guy we should be targeting in FA.
And i think we should be drafting a PG at 13, Kira/Terry/Maxey

Who we draft this year can really change the direction of this franchise if he turns out to be a legit starter.

I’m not worried about next season to be honest. Way too much competition. The Pelicans will likely be on the outside looking in which is fine as long as they make the necessary progressions to get to the next level. I think it’s a lot more important to develop Ingram and Zion’s half court game right now anyways since those two are definitely going to be together for the next 4-5 years. That and we need to find out where Lonzo’s development is by the end of the year since Griffin is hellbent on giving him every opportunity to be part of the future.

That's why you send Lonzo to Phoenix for Mikal Bridges, someone Hart played two years with at Nova, and you do'nt worry about it.

so would any Pels fan, but I don't think PHX would be interested in doing that. We'd probably have to give up more than just Lonzo to get him.
PHX let TJ Warren go b/c they believe in Bridges. I use that word let go loosely, as they traded Warren and pick #32 to send him to the Pacers for nothing in return.
