Nobody? There were more than a few of us on the board that saw this coming..

I'm not sure if it was as close as 50/50, but there was definitely a large contingent of the board that would rather have just let him walk. But fans getting blindsided by the injury is one thing, it bothers me how Demps and Monty were blindsided by it.

As for being stuck with Gordon, I think it all really depends on what the doctors say. He managed to play 64 games before needing to be shut down (presumably) this season. If doctors clear him after a few weeks of rest, I think he'll still be tradable. Hopes of trading him for immediate cap space like to Charlotte would probably be gone, but trading him for shorter, similarly maligned contracts seems reaonsable, ie Chandler/Bargnani/Boozer.

Who would we get out of that deal? Chandler?
I could FLAP to that. The we could use the MLE on a decent sf. Jrue, tyreke, sf, davis, chandler, with ryno off the bench=championship.

This is on Demps, not Monty.

Blamewise perhaps, but I think it's remarkable how neither of them saw it coming. Think back to that time, Gordon had just gotten good reviews at the Olympic trials, both Monty and Demps expect Gordon to show up ready for camp, and then it all went to hell.

Yeah, lets take on a guy that has missed 25% of his games over the past 2 seasons. That would make all the fans love Demp's decisions even more.

I know that's less than Gordon, but it still doesn't help the team win games.

And if Gordon ends up opting out of his contract, trading for a similarly bad expiring could be considered a mistake in hindsight, but with us needing to address 2 starting positions before Davis signs his extensions, if anyone offers you an expiring for Gordon you HAVE to take it.

Monty doesn't hire the medical staff. Monty doesn't supervise the medical staff. Monty doesn't sign players.

We have to hope the medical team doesn't earn a reputation that hurts our ability to attract players.

I think you're missing the point by thinking I'm attacking Monty. Saying it's remarkable (admittedly in a bad way) and saying it's his fault are 2 different things. At that point in time I'm not even sure if our medical staff was involved. According to that TP article Gordon thought the team was out to screw him when one of the doctors suggested he needed microfracture surgery. He started seeing his own doctors after that. I think most of this is on Gordon because of a combination of his personality and thinking the team was out to get him, but Demps/Monty never embraced him like you'd expect a team to do with it's highest paid and highest profile player. If CP3 had still been around, would you expect Monty to not realize if he was about to miss most of the season? I sure would expect him to have a clue about the health of his star player. This whole Gordon situation has gone horribly wrong since day 1, and I think most of the blame goes on Gordon, that still doesn't make it any less remarkable that a head coach gets blindsided by the injury situation of his highest paid player.

I think it speaks poorly of the organization that Monty was blindsided. If you can't trust your medical staff to monitor a player's recovery, why not just give the player a Blue Cross card and tell him to take care of himself?

There were people who wanted to let him go, no doubt. But the way the injury unfolded was bizarre. Remember the opening day surprise last season.

Wasn't one of the reason Gordon wanted to go to Phoenix was because they have a "great medical staff"?

Only 2 more years and Gordon will be an expiring

If you want to make use of his cap space he has to be moved before the next trade deadline. Not that there are any Rashard Lewis' out there anymore, but I wonder if they'd trade Gordon for an expiring they'll pay to play for a contender.

We need to seriously consider retiring EG's number and immediately hang it up in the arena.

Crap. At this point the only way to get him off the books is if he retires. That ain't happening.
