Do you think AD will have a bounce back year?

We seem to talk about everyone but him. He obviously had a down year last season. It was probably due to the players around him or the fit in the new system. Do you think he bounces back next season? By which I mean continuing the path he was on during the 14-15 season where he was breaking PER records with crazy efficiency. I personally think so and can see him avg 26/11/2.

I'd like to see him taking less threes. That shite drove me nuts. That alone would help his efficiency. If Hield is a serious threat to shoot and Jrue can stay healthy, I absolutely see his PER back up in the high 20s, possibly at 30ish. Biggest thing I'm worried about with AD is health, though. Can he play 70+ games?

If Jrue, Reke, Q, and Buddy stay healthy it can take pressure off him from doing so much the past couple of seasons. Hopefully that's enough to stop the injuries.

If a player who hits >50% from within the park, he has to hit >33.3% of his 3's for it to be mathematically even.

AD hits a career 52.4% from within the arc, so why are we forcing him to shoot a harder outside shot instead of focusing on developing a post game that he can either:
1. get a better shot for himself in a zone he hits close to 60% (0-10ft)
2. learn to pass out to a BETTER shooter who is wide open

this whole mantra/change of becoming a stretch 4 or learning to shoot the 3 ball is ridiculous and stupid. You're taking away a superior athlete from the rim so he gets less put backs and rebounds. You're also making him take a shot that he's worse at than a natural 3pt shooter

His 3pt% improved as the season went on as did his ISO efficiency.

I dispute this notion.

Per 36 he had nearly identical numbers on just one more shot per game:

2014-15 24.3/10.2/2.9 on 17.6 FGA
2015-26 24.6/10.4/2.1 on 18.9 FGA

His drop in efficiency was a combination of

1) Gentry asking him to do things he had never done before, like shooting 3s:

2014-15 38% of FGA at the rim, less than 1% from 3
2015-16 31% of FGA at the rim, about 9.5% from 3

He had an 8.5% increase in 3s and a 7% decrease in attempts at the rim. That will decrease your efficiency some. So will:

2) Playing with an inferior cast. We've all seen the graphic how his FG% was about 15%-20% higher when the assist came from Jrue rather than Contract Year Cole. Well his At the Rim FG% was down from 71% in 14-15 to 67% last year.

If AD stays inside instead of drifting outside, and he had a healthy starting caliber PG actually starting with him the whole year, his PER is back to the stellar levels of 14-15.

Biggest thing AD needs to continue to develop. If he can learn to make the smart pass out of double teams, Buddy/Q and Jrue positioned on opposite wings will get great looks.

Him getting doubled and forcing bad shots or him just throwing the ball into the sidelines is so frustrating.

I'm with you guys on this one. He shouldn't take threes unless his jumper is just on fire and we're down 10 plus.

Takes away from offensive boards and his easy put backs (which we'll need with tyrec putting up bricks after driving the lane).

To be fair AD's down year is still pretty fricking good. He's just going to get better y'all.

I think teams had a better gameplan for him this year and he had very little support.
Despite that, he spent way to much time away from the rim, shooting threes, rolling on picks for jumpshots instead of cutting to the goal, and a fairly non existent transition game.
His points per possession dropped on just about every type of shot except post ups, which he took more of this year.

I didn't mind what Gentry did that much with AD this year, forcing him to try to create for himself and facilitate more in iso situations. What i want to see is the correct adjustments this year to make him better and a more efficient scorer. I still don't like that he's being lazy and shooting more than going to the goal, but his free throws have gone up every year, so there's that.
I think AD's progress this year can make or break Gentry's job. If he doesn't look like he's getting better, then Gentry needs to go.

Hopefully we get a better blend of him scoring in the flow of the offense as opposed to pure iso situations. Watching offenses like SAS, Atl, Utah, Charlotte, etc, that's more of what we need to be like, moving the ball around and penetrating to create open spot up looks and easy finishes off cuts.
Did you know only 1 team's offense had more isolation plays than us this past year, Melo's Knicks. We don't have isolation players to be doing that.
