So the league continues to suck
handful of haves vs 22-25 have nots regardless of just how much vision those have nots may have.
Until there isn’t a stigma attached to a team being able to do the best by the franchise when a guy getting paid 45m/year with 4 years left demands out, it’s gonna suck. It’s the ultimate have your cake and eat it to and it’s all kind of bullshite.
I understand a player wanting out of a currently non competitive franchise but he’s not even asking to simply be dealt. He’s asking to go to ONE team with four years left on his deal and fans of the nba think that should be the norm and acceptable.

Who thinks this should be the norm or accepted?
I think everyone thinks it's shite and should change.
I'm simply saying why it won't.

There are tons of nba fans (maybe not of tiny teams like ours) that think Portland would be in the wrong for not sending lillard to the heat. They’d cite he’s been a model franchise player, never complained, yada yada yada.
Or they argue this is just how it goes in the nba.

RealGM is interesting to watch right now, especially with Heat fans lowballing Portland for Dame.
Small market fans are on the “frick Dame!” train and everyone else is doing all the standard “No one will ever sign with you again!” shite. Spoiler - FAs don’t sign with Portland, NO, San Antonio, etc.

quote:In fairness to Dame, all we know is yes he's requested a trade and gave a preferred destination.
Dame is on a 5 year deal. He needs to grow up.
These frickin asshats trying to get themselves to one specific destination by issuing threats to attempt to dilute their trade market is trash and it needs to end.
To my knowledge, he hasn't given any threats, so I'm not sure what he did that he needs to grow up.
There's nothing wrong with a trade request and team list if you still plan to go to another team if you're traded and not cause a stir. He hasn't given any indication he'd do that.

quote:Not just that but the player would do any of a bunch of different things to make it clear they want a trade without ever officially asking for a trade, so none of these ideas would ever work.
And the players would never agree to it without something insane in return, something the league is not willing to give up.

quote:This is why it never makes sense for teams to do right by the player. They think it gains them something with other players but it doesn't. There's no point to it, trade the player to the team that gives you the return that is best for you.

Update on Dame talks from Jake Fisher. Looks like Miami maybe out.
quote:
Portland’s situation is quickly progressing toward a cleaner resolution, as increased chatter surrounding potential trade partners outside of Lillard’s preferred Heat has reverberated around the league. Just how quickly the Blazers manage to bring negotiations across the finish line will depend on how general manager Joe Cronin and his front office wrangle the various multiteam frameworks Portland has explored in recent days, according to league personnel familiar with the matter.
At this juncture, Toronto and Chicago have been the two possible destinations for Lillard discussed most by league figures. While a collection of NBA personnel expect Portland to engage Miami before finalizing something with another suitor, the Heat have not factored primarily in the Blazers’ recent dialogue surrounding Lillard, league sources said. Additionally, the Phoenix Suns and Utah Jazz have materialized as peripheral teams that could factor into larger deals that help facilitate Lillard’s departure from the Blazers. Assembling such a blockbuster requires the summation of many parts.
One piece of the developing Lillard negotiations that seems clear: Portland has strongly considered acquiring Phoenix Suns center Deandre Ayton as part of a multiteam deal for Lillard, league sources confirmed to Yahoo Sports. Arizona Sports and PHNX previously reported the Suns’ potential involvement.
