West and Gray would both be severely underpaid next year if they picked up their player options.

Yes for Gray, arguable at best for West.

West averaged 19 and 8 and was scheduled to make 7.5 million next year.

Here is a list of power forwards with comparable stats and their 2011-2012 salary

Josh Smith 17 and 8 - 12.2 million
Luis Scola 18 and 8 - 8.6 million
Chris Bosh 19 and 8 - 16 million
Carlos Boozer 18 and 10 - 13.5 million
Elton Brand 15 and 8 - 17.1 million
Paul Gasol 19 and 10 - 18.7 million
Zach Randolph 20 and 12 - 17.5 million
Kevin Garnett 15 and 9 - 21.2 million
Lamarcus Aldridge 22 and 9 - 11.8 million
Paul Millsap 17 and 8 - 6.7 million

The average salary of the 10 players most comparable to West based on production is 14.3 million. At 7.5 million, West would be severely underpaid.

My take...love DWest but losing him is manageable, unless there's any possible truth to CP is done if DWest leaves.
Let's face it, DWest is a somewhat rickety, aging PF who is a spot up jump shooter. He has toughness but lacks athletecism. At best he is an 18-8 guy right now which is damn good, but with the injury risk and advancing age, he's replaceable. C Landry is a good start at replacing him.
Hornets would be much better served if they could replace West with a legit 2 or 3 who can score and then add a backup PF who can bang. Been saying this for years though, so I don't really think DWest makes or breaks this team. Unless of course CP leaves due to him leaving.
Again, love DWest and hate to see him leave. But it might not be the worst thing overall.

Kris Humphries on line 1 for the backup PF position.

Possibilities at the 2 who could be available as salary dumps include Iggy and Monta Ellis. OJ Mayo could also be available if he's still on the outs with the Grizzlies' management.

I'm not going to read this thread because I know the sunshine-pumping tendencies of this board, but is the general consensus that this organization is going to be in Seattle in 12-18 months? Cause that's what I'm getting from this.

This means that West is stupid. He was getting paid to sit on the bench...

Did you read the quote I was talking about? If so then you are saying that Marcus Thorton is a stud SG...REALLY?? I stand by what I said, Thorton is NOT a stud, he is a good player but def not a stud at the 2 position.

David West Is a horrible defender. Settles for outside shots because he can't drive. No quickness. No moves except back down fall away from 15. He is a a Big guy however the Term goes HARD IN THE PAINT is not relative to him. God forbid that he doesn't get a call from the officials, because he takes the next 2 minuets to get over it. Carl Landry is just as good of a Jump Shooter with better energy. Lets develop him. Maybe we can Make some moves now to try and keep CP3 because we have tried the West combo already.

David West is Chris Paul's best friend, but he's only his 67th best friend.

If we can sign Chris Paul's besty #1-66 we'll be okay.

Jarrett Jack is Chris Paul's 56th best friend so that's good.

Tyson Chandler was Chris Paul's 42nd best friend so we've been through worse.

Don't forget numbers 56 and 35 in Jannero Pargo & J.R Smith. Seriously, his friends deal reminds me of a goddamn woman.
