Could we realistically add Paul George and keep Cousins?

Not super familiar with our financials as a team for next year. We need a dynamic athletic wing player ..... Solomon Hill is worthless/liability.

It is extremely unlikely we would be able to add anyone of note.

We would have to trade for the player (PG is almost certainly going to opt out), and they would have to be willing to accept some combo of Mirotic/Moore/Hill/Ajinca/Diallo/Jackson future picks.

What does it matter?

When we play GS in the playoffs we won’t be allowed to win. Small market teams won’t make the NBA enough money during the playoffs. Clearly this is what’s happening now.

It would be pretty difficult to jump through the hoops to make a S&T happen if George opts out. If George opts in trading for him is much easier and more practical, but he'd be leaving $10 million on the table. I don't see why he'd do that to join the Pels. I might think differently if he pushed his way out of Indy because he wanted to win, but he reportedly wanted to leave for LA but would have stayed for the money. That doesn't sound like he's reached the ring chasing point of his career yet so he's not leaving $10 million on the table.

I don't see how the Pelicans have a shot at George.

Best case (not even sure if allowed) would be a three team sign and trade.

Cousins to the Lakers

George to the Pelicans

Kuzma, Deng, Moore, and multiple 1st round picks to the Thunder.

We need Boogie + 1 more all-star, unfortunately.

If we had healthy Boogie, a remotely competent 3 and 3 bench guys that could play at a high level, we could compete for WCFs in some years.

We really, really need to get the bench better.

I think the bench will improve with vet minimum ring chasers but we have to prove we can actually get a ring.

Hence why I figure we still need + 1 All Star

There’s no way the Lakers send Kuzma to anyone at this point.

Boogie S&T will not happen. I don’t see any realistic scenario for that unless Boogie doesn’t want to be here. By all accounts, that doesn’t appear to be the case.

To answer OP, realistically no chance in hell.

People love to say this. Did the NBA rig it so the small market Spurs would be the NBA's best franchise over two decades?

Wouldn't the NBA want a closer Game 1? Wouldn't the NBA want the Pelicans to win a game in Oracle so that the sports world would be talking about this series?

Why do the Lakers, Bulls, Knicks, and Nets suck? Wouldn't the league rig it so that those massive markets would be on the big stage, instead of the league's 29th biggest market?

We're not getting any attractive vet minimum ring chasers to go to NOLA.

All I could think last night was how good would this starting 5 be:

Rondo
Jrue
Iguodala
AD
Boogie

with Mirotic off the bench.

He's old and expensive, I wanted to get him years ago before he went to GSW.

With a starting 5 of

Boogie
AD
PG
Jrue
Rondo

And a 6th Man in

Mirotic

Wanna put money on that?

Sure. In the event that we get Paul George, sign Boogie, and somehow also keep Mirotic, I'm willing to bet that first pick of aging veterans will go to GS. Then Houston.
