Maybe not a great basketball name, but it's interesting nonetheless...

Wikipedia - New Orleans Pelicans

Rights to the New Orleans Pelicans name are currently owned by Tom Benson, owner of the NFL's New Orleans Saints.

Doesn't he own several names for various sports teams? Pelicans, Voodoo, a WNBA team name if New Orleans ever got one, etc. What are the other ones?

People are saying that is owned by the AFL but Benson has interest in buying it, if internet rumors are to be believed.

I actually kind of agree. Better than most others I've heard.

Pelicans is a baseball name not a basketball name.

I loved the Breakers mockup. A Pelican mascot would work well with a Breakers nickname.

A return of Seymour D. Fair? I'd be down.

What is a Baseball name or a Basketball name?

A mascot is a mascot.

Baseball appeals to old people that like to watch a sport as boring as waiting to die. Basketball appeals to young people that forgot to take their adderall and like everything to be eXtreme and EPIC. Pelicans definitely seems more baseball appropriate.

I would rather keep the Hornets than go with most of the other names.
I think "Krewe" is horrible yet it seems to be the most popular.

The best representation of NO was the Jazz. The Pelican represents more of Louisiana which actually might work. Just please get rid of the aqua/neon blue and white colors.

What about Pelicans with royal blue and white. Like the flag?

I personally think the light blue and white are an awesome color scheme. Preferably creole blue and white.
