I don't think he will come close. I asked the wrong question. What I should have said is , Do you think AD has the skill to be as good as Pau Gasol or Lamar Odom.

He is a dominant rebounder and shot blocker. He could develop a 3 point shot. But putting him at the 3 takes away his two best skills.

I agree to a certain extent. I don't think he will be a dominant rebounder in the NBA though. Other guys will be too big. His length will be a defensive nightmare for a lot of 3s. That keeps his shot blocking ability skill in place.

I think he has the potential to be better than both as well. But I think he's a different player than Odom.

We already have a long athletic guy with limited offense playing SF. You want to turn Davis into Juju 3.0 when Juju 2.0 is still on the roster? He's a 4/5

I think he has the skill to be better than both. I also think you are greatly overrating Lamar Odom by including him.

I haven't seen any "whiny bitch" in Anthony Davis. I also watched AD lead a championship team. What has Lamar Odom ever lead?

Lamar Odom should be nowhere near an Anthony Davis conversation, regardless of talent or production... They're nothing alike.

In a way I wish the comparisons would stop... Anthony Davis will be Anthony Davis. A disruptive defender, with a 15' jumper, and a developing face-up game. He wont be playing with his back constantly to the basket, he wont be handling the ball past the 3 point line.

but for the sake of comparison.... he's Serge Ibaka, with a spash of Kevin Garnett.

Agree with all this. I think he will be a 4 who can be used to defend the 3 on occasion against a guy like Carmelo or somebody like that. But he's not going to banging inside with Howard or Perkins.

Kevin Love, Dennis Rodman, Charles Barkley, Ben Wallace (also only 240lb) disagree with this statement.

Rebounding is one of the skills that best translate from college to pro ball.

If he gets to 250-260lb he will certainly be banging with those guys.

Are not like Anthony Davis

But I agree that he'll be a big time rebounder. He should bulk up pretty big... his shoulders are too wide not to.

The first three Jordan teams didn't have dominant bigs (at least not in my mind...Grant and Cartwright were average players).
lets not forget that MJ is one of the best all time and he played alongside Pippen. And the supporting cast was pretty good.

That's what I'm saying.

I think he will be a good rebounder, but I don't know if he'll be Dennis Rodman or a Ben Wallace rebounder. But we probably disagree based on the fact that we think he will play different positions.

I think he will get bigger and at some point he may be 240-250. Maybe six or seven years down the road, but not any time soon.

Your point was that he is too small to rebound effectively in the NBA. Those examples are guys who were considered too small at one point or another. Not that Davis will be those guys.

He may not ever led the league, but I will be shocked if does not average around 10 per 36.

It amazes me that everybody keeps trying to come up with comparisons, when the most obvious is Tyrus Thomas. They were both high school guards that had big growth spurts. They each played one dominant year of college ball and are the exact same size coming out (6'10, 220 lbs).

Thomas (Lsu)
12.3 ppg 9.2 rpg 3.1 bpg

Davis (Kentucky)
14.5 ppg 9.8 rgp 4.8 bpg

Just because Thomas didn't work out, doesn't mean Davis won't. But it goes to show that Davis will be a 4, unless he has another big growth spurt.

If the Hornets land Davis, he will be the next KG...If the Hornets don't land him, he will be the next Tyrus Thomas. It's really not that complicated

I've missed something. Just what did Jeff Withey prove against Davis? He went 2/8 from the field and scored 5 points.

They aren't the same size. Davis has a bigger wingspan and he's closer to 6'11". Tyrus is a generous 6'10", which is really more like 6'9".

So even though I can go to over a dozen websites that list heights and weights and all of those sites will list A. Davis at 6'10, 220 and all of them will list T. Thomas at 6'10, 225, Davis with a wingspan of 7'4 and Thomas with a wingspan of 7'3, they really aren't close to each other? Leave it up to a guy to argue over an inch..

I think Tyrus is a better athlete though, have to see how Davis measures up.
