What the Pelicans have done since DeMarcus Cousins went down with a torn Achilles at the end of January has been nothing short of remarkable. Since the Pelicans fell to 28-26 on Feb. 9 and many counted them entirely out of playoff consideration, all they've done is go 22-8, including a thoroughly dominating sweep of the No. 3 seed Portland Trail Blazers.

Since Feb. 10, the Pelicans have an offensive rating of 108.6, compared to the Warriors' 110. And their offensive rating in four games against the defensively improved Blazers (114.7) is second only to the Warriors in this year's playoffs.

They've found the winning formula between the incredible one-on-one ability of Davis and Holiday, the pace-pushing, distributing talents of Rajon Rondo, and a spread-the-floor shooting attack led by Nikola Mirotic. It's quite a different look, as the Warriors got to see in their 126-120 loss to New Orleans toward the end of the regular season.

"That's a completely different team without DeMarcus," Warriors All-Star Draymond Green said after that game. "Different guys are playing with different confidence levels. ... It was definitely good to play a team this close to the playoffs that you could possibly play, especially with the different style that they're playing now." And it's not just the offense. Going to a smaller, more switchable lineup with Davis at center has allowed the Pelicans to thrive on defense. Holiday has ascended into one of the best on-ball perimeter defenders in the NBA, and New Orleans improved from 22nd in the league in defensive rating to fifth after the Cousins injury.

In a league where the goal is to collect as many “max” guys as you can, maybe the Pels are actually better without Boogie? And this is strange to even think about coming from a huge Boogie fan. Thoughts peli-bros?

It’s all a scam by the national media to get Boogie on the Lakers, Celtics, (insert big market team here)

Yes, they are better without Boogie.

People like to say they would be better with Boogie because it makes them feel good. They can say to themselves “look how good we are right now... and we don’t even have Boogie back yet! Imagine how good we’ll be when we add a top 15 player!”

It’s fun to say... but in reality the team is better off without him.

Yes. Assuming he only has one working Achilles tendon.

The last time AD/DC played together they beat your Rockets, one of the few teams to do so with all 3 of Harden/CP3/Capella playing. The fact that you're saying yes makes me believe the answer is no. They aren't better without Boogie.

The Pelicans were the better team on the court the night Boogie went down.

The easiest way to point out the stupidity of this question is this... with Boogie on the roster, Hill and Diallo aren't playing the minutes they've been playing this postseason.

So, yeah, this team is better with Boogie.

They played a good game. That doesn't change the rest of the season they played with him.

I really hope y'all do bring Boogie back. It's better for the Rockets because I think y'all are a worse team with him and will tie up a bunch of money with him.

If I was a Pelicans fan, I would not want Boogie. I'm giving you my 100% honest opinion on it.

While that's true, Boogie has such a large percentage of touches on the floor he'll take away from some of the good things the team has been doing.

It's not like y'all are just going to add Boogie on top of what y'all have been doing. The style of play will have to change and he will eat up a lot of the touches.

The much better option would be to upgrade at spots like Hill and Diallo to compliment the team and make them better instead of dropping Boogie into the middle of the team and completely changing everything.

I agree to a certain extent. I LOVE this "Defend and Run" defense first style of play and Boogie doesn't seem well suited for that. However, the game he went down against the Rockets he had 11 assists and just 12 shots. I think that kind of play from him would work. He had been slowly buying into "boring basketball" all season and it really looked like he and the team were turning a corner until he got injured. He's not going to look like Niko defending in space, but he does make limited role players like Darius Miller and E'Tuwan Moore better.

He and Nikola would be great together imo. I really like the idea of that 3 big man rotation, keeping everyone fresh, and ideal with Boogie coming off of injury. I think this run has put the the team on a very positive note league wise, and that should finally attract us a 3, it's just a matter of do we have a way to make that move happen.

The question is not “are we better without him?”.

The question is “did his injury make the Pelicans better for the future with him?”

ETA: I’ll elaborate. This team has a successful identity now. It’s much easier to fit one player into a team identity than to build an identity around one player. Look at OKC to see what I’m talking about.

Boogie isn’t sitting on that bench thinking “man I could put up 30-12 on this team”. He’s thinking “damn this team is good, and I’d give anything to be a part of this”. I would bet anything on that.
