The most commonly use is as "of moderate quality." My use of the word fits that definition. They are 3rd out of 5 teams in their division. 9 teams have a better record. Again, mediocre.

You can argue all you want about point differential, but wins and losses are the true barometer.

they're still one of the best teams in the NBA

"One of the best" is not really a qualified statement. It portends to be a quantitative argument, but is not. Sure, the Heat are "one of the best" 15 teams in the NBA. However, their outcome-based performance does not indicate that they are one of the best 5 teams in the NBA.

The only decent teams they have beaten are the Suns (6-5) and Orlando. The only impressive win is the Orlando wins. The other "blowouts" have come against mediocre to bad teams.

You might be mediocre if:

a core player wants "to chill"

I have no problem with that....now when we play them and beat them if he still says that , then

Laugh all you want, Rose is carrying that team right now, he's averaging like 25 pts and 8 asts per game. And he's younger than Paul. Its not a slight to Paul, he's the 2nd best in the game at the moment.

Paul is averaging 3.5 minutes fewer minutes per game and trails Rose only in points scored. He has more assists, more steals, more rebounds, and is a much more efficient scorer (52.5% FG, 50% 3pt vs 48% and 34% for Rose). And Rose isn't "carrying" them, they're a pretty talented team. Paul is leading the NBA in PER (29), Rose is 16th @ 22.8.

The much more common definition of mediocre, and the one the word implies in every day conversation, is:

barely adequate; rather poor or inferior.

It doesn't really matter though. There's no argument that supports either definition applying to a team that has a +11 point differential and is top 5 in every single team performance statistic. They're performing far above the NBA average in every conceivable way. I'm not going to respond to this again as this is a Hornets thread on the Hornets board.

CP3 has a better FG% than Rose right now too. If CP3 tried to ball hog as much as Rose he would easily be beating him in points too.

Do you follow the Hornets at all? Look at the roster from the Hornets' playoff run a few years back and try to tell me that supporting cast wasn't awful. CP3 does more with waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay less than Rose.

I'd like to know what backup you have to suggest that Rose is better than Chris Paul as a PG?

How? When the playoffs roll around, the top seed goes to the best record. Point differential is a tie-breaker and nothing more than that.

Would you rather be 42-10 with a +1 differential or 26-26 with a +10? I'm betting most teams would choose the 42-10 record over the +10 differential.

Also, point differential has a lot to do with the system that you run and the teams that you have played.

The first and foremost performance statistic is your record. So you are incorrect.

It's not like the Heat are killing the Hornets in point differential. 4pts difference now, but before we split close games with Dallas and they blew out an inconsistent Phx team, we were tied at the top of the league.

If Chris Paul took 21 shots a game like Rose instead of his current 12, he'd average in the area of 30/game.
