Bam and AD (if you're calling them centers)

Why wouldn’t you call them centers? The best centers in the league are the ones who can slide to the 4. Why is that perceived as a knock when identifying “centers”?

Steven Adams just needs to be Steven Adams. I’m fine with a rim protecting big who will average 10/10 with a block or so a night. We don’t need to facilitate offense through Steven Adams on a team with Zion, Ingram, Bledsoe, Lonzo, etc

Exactly. Adams is there to dare people to try to drive on us, and rebound (while getting some putbacks). We have other guys who can score.

He's presence in the middle immediately changes our identity from last year. People weren't afraid to drive on us at all.

I think you have this backwards. The best 4's are the ones that can slide to the 5.

ETA: Jokic and Embiid are the two best centers in the league, they aren't playing the 4

Agree. It was embarrassing last year how easily teams got into the paint. SVG makes preventing that a focus of his defense.

You can't stop a lot of the guys from driving. We can limit how easy it is to score once they've gotten to the paint

Many times last year we put up little resistance.

Which is why I used the phrase dare them to drive, not stop them.

It'll make teams think a lot more against how they game plan for and play us. And thinking too much leads to mistakes, which leads to fast breaks, which we are really good at.

Honestly we could have gave up 2 unprotected firsts for Adams and I'd still think he was worth it. Dude changes our defense immensely.
