The Anthony Davis who concluded the 2013-14 season often overwhelmed opponents, including a 10-game stretch in March featuring averages of 29.8 points, 13.5 rebounds and 2.8 blocks. Now imagine that same player, but with noticeably more muscle – and perhaps an extra inch or two of height.

During a Friday sitdown interview with New Orleans Pelicans radio broadcaster Sean Kelley, the All-Star power forward noted that through strength training, he has upped his weight to 238 pounds.

The 21-year-old also acknowledged that he still may be growing (Davis’ lengthy video interview will be available on Pelicans.com beginning Monday).

“I’m up to 238 right now. It’s all muscle, and that’s what I need,” said Davis, who was 230 at the start of the 2013-14 season. “I want to get stronger, so that when I post up, it’s a lot easier for me. I think it’s going to translate to the season, just my mentality, knowing that I’m a lot stronger and a lot better. It’s going to make me more aggressive.”

The University of Kentucky product said he hasn’t measured himself lately, but it’s possible he’s no longer 6-foot-10, as he’s been listed in the pros. He half-jokingly added that he wants to stay in the 6-something range.

“I hope not,” Davis said on whether he’s still growing. “I don’t want to be 7 feet. It just (sounds) weird, to be a 7-footer. I’d like to be 6-10, but if I grow, you can’t really do anything about it. You can’t help it.”

The bigger he gets, the less important it is for us to pay big money to a new center IMO. He's already long enough to play center now. If he can maintain a weight around 240, he should easily be able to play center for 30 minutes a game.

I'm all for going after Monroe if it gets rid of Gordon and Monroe isn't seeking a max contract but our #1 priority right now should be SF. Withey could end up to be a good starting center for us also so I hope if we land Monroe we aren't paying him more than 12-13 a year average over the length of his contract.

This is awesome. Imagine him weighing upwards of 250. Might not be that far away, honestly.

Yes. In the video interview I posted there's a part where Monty talks about that. Basically they've been focusing on specific strength training rather than just trying to bulk up and gain mass.

I don't think the extra bulk will slow him down at all. I mean the dude is still only 21.

I've said this a few times before, he needs to bulk up now because of what is in your other thread. He was down to 212 at the end of last season. It was evident to me that he was losing weight. It's a long season, and being on the road like that will take its toll on you. Especially when it's in your DNA to be thin.

He was 6'3 his junior year of high school. And now hes 6'10 / pushing 6'11ish. He grew 7-8inches at the age where most people stop growing... how does this happen?

But for real... hes already a great player. And is only going to get better and better. Its scary to think how much better he could be. Hes 1 of those rare guys that the NBA hasnt seen before in regards to his size, skill, age, background, etc. 6'10 / 6'11 and still growing. Played PG most of his life, then grew and didnt lose those skills or coordination or anything. Great post moves, touch, fundamentals, etc in the paint. Is already a very good mid range jump shooter and will become a solid 3pt shooter. Hes already 1 of the most efficient players in the NBA, and at just 21 years old. Young players are supposed to struggle being efficient. Hes already 1 of the most efficient players in the NBA.

Hes gonna end up being a blend of KD + KG + Ibaka. And thats a scary combo. During the last month of the season this past year, he averaged 25pts, 11rebs, 2 assists, and 2.4blocks per game. I fully expect him to average those #s for the entire season. And maybe even an assist or 2 more when we are actually healthy and have our best players on the floor with him like Holiday and Anderson.

It's scary to think how much better Davis could be with a full season of Jrue and Anderson.

Barring injuries, if we can solidify the SF spot this offseason, we have a great chance to make the playoffs next year.
