Pels get:
Tatum
Smart
Myles Turner
2020/2021 Memphis 1st
2019 LAC 1st

Pacers get:
Jaylen Brown
2019 Kings 1st

Celtics get:
AD

Not sure if the Pacers go for it, but it gives them a promising young wing to pair with Dipo and solves the problem of not being feasibile to have both Turner and Sabonis on big money deals.

The Pels end up with Tatum, Smart, and an ideal big to pair with Zion, along with draft capital.

I see Turner as a target frequently and don’t get it. Is it that Sabonis makes people think Turner is expendable? Because a modern big is probably only slightly less valuable than a modern wing.

Tim Bontemps wrote an article for ESPN in April talking about how Sabonis and Turner are both universally agreed to be centers in the current NBA and that Thaddeus Young pairs better with each than they do with each other. So the belief is that Indy has to choose one or the other instead of giving out big money to both

And it’s gotten legs from there, especially since Sabonis will be a RFA next summer and Turner & the Pacers agreed to a $70 mil extension last fall

With reports that Miami wanted to trade for Wall pre-injury and now want to get in the hunt for Conley, I would really like it if we could get Richardson, so out of character for me, but here is a crazy 4 way that I need to work out the specifics in terms of the picks (exchanges, swaps) and check the salaries, but the main components would be:

NOP - Tatum, Brown, Richardson, Dragic, Olynyk
MEM - Smart, Solo, Moore
MIA - Conley, Williams
BOS - AD

Picks Potentially Involved - 2019 SAC (#14), 2019 MIA (#13), 2019 LAC (#20), 2019 BOS (#22), 2020 MEM

Majority of the picks would go to the Pels with something going to Memphis.

MIA - get their target in Conley and get $10M in cap cushion at the cost of Richardson and #13 in a weak draft (could be a swap instead of giving up the pick)

MEM - get grit and grind Smart to pair with Ja, no bad salary as only take on Moore/Solo expirings, get a pick also

BOS - get AD

NOP - get players that fit with Jrue and Zion, get picks, can still trade off one of the wings

I'll list my favorite for each team

NYK: AD

NOP: Robinson, Knox, Trier, Thomas (waived), #3, both Dallas picks

Pretty standard, no explanation needed
____________________________

Boston: AD, Hill

Cleveland: Hayward, #14

NOP: Tatum, Brown, JR Smith (waived), Knight, #5, Memphis pick

Cleveland needs to add someone with Love, and its rumored they are enamored with Hayward, even with his injury. Boston gets their man, sheds a bunch of salary (assuming they stretch Hill), and keep Smart and 2 1st round picks. Pelicans get 2 guys that fit perfectly with Jrue and Zion, and the #5 pick to take a guy like Doumbouya (who I love)
__________________________________

LAL: AD, Conley

MEM: Ball, Kuzma, Hill, #4, 2020 LA 1st

NOP: Ingram, Hart, #2, 2021 pick swap, 22 1st

We get Morant to pair with Zion. Memphis gets 2 guys that fit their timeline, drop Conley and his salary, plus get a future 1st, and all they have to do is move down 2 spots.. LAl gets 2 "stars" to put beside Lebron, with Conley matching LBJ's timeline.
_____________________________________

Either one of these 3 trades and I would be happy, and I think all teams involved would walk away happy also

It seems like the Pels get too much, the Heat give up too much, and Memphis would want more than one future asset out of the deal.

The picks still need to be sorted, but from my understanding Miami does not view Dragic or Olynyk as positive assets. They get Conley going forward and get out of the tax. Maybe a pick swap with the LAC pick instead of losing their pick and then the Heat pick going to Memphis. I just like the idea of figuring out a way to turn Smart + value into Richardson within the context of a Boston trade.

It's difficult to judge the value of Conley considering the size of his contract and age. However, I guess if I am playing Devil's advocate on my proposal, from a Grizz standpoint I'd cut the Pels out and just trade Conley for Richardson, Olynyk, and Dragic + pick.

I could see Memphis going for it if you gave them their pick back and maybe threw one of the lesser picks or a young prospect at them like Frank Jackson. They get the culture setting vets and future stuff.

I guess the Heat side can make sense if Olynyk/Dragic are negative in their minds. But the trade looks so good for the Pels in part because Boston gives you everything. Is there really enough leverage to force that? I guess that depends on Kyrie.

Yeah idk if I understand Miami's end game there. Are they getting Conley to try and entice another high level free agent to sign there? Because Conley, Bam, Winslow, Whiteside feels like a pretty low ceiling team.

Me neither really, just going off Sporting News’ Sean Devaney reporting last week that the Heat are expected to explore a trade for Conley.

quote:

Heat president Pat Riley has long coveted Mike Conley. NBA sources say Miami is expected to make a run at a trade for Conley in the coming few weeks.

Yeah I guess I haven't really understood what the Heat are doing since LeBron left. They seem to just be content to be mediocre until Riley can somehow get another top level FA to sign there.

You're not getting Boston to take back Hill unless they are sending Hayward in the deal. They dont have a way to match the salary without giving up the entire team

Hill can be traded at the deadline

Im not worried about the team needing to desperately move him for some reason but i wonder if brooklyn and the pels could do some sort of Crabbe/Solo swap though?

If they sign someone like Brogdon then Moore is gone in a ST

Its possible Brooklyn would do that, then stretch Hill.. It would save them around 15 million in cap space for the year, and we would actually get a useable player (much like we flipped Aninca for Wesley Johnson last year)
