Kinda apples and oranges to me. Zepp rocked out more but Floyd was just incredible musically overall with the use of so many blues riffs and mixes. Watching the DVD Making of DSOTM is really an eye opener as to how far ahead of their time they were while still being grounded in blues and funk.

My vote has to go to Pink Floyd.

Various parts (words, riffs, etc.,) from the entire side of that album are frequently in my head.

It most certainly is not!

I might also point out that my opinion is not unique, so your reasoning is invalid

I am a huge Led Zeppelin fan and like Pink Floyd a lot.

However you could call me a Zeppelin addict, so for me it's a very easy decision. I still listen to many of Zeppelin's bootlegs and am just blown away by them live. IMO I have yet to hear a band that can hang with zeppelin comparing their 69-71 shows. I have seen Pink Floyd live twice and enjoyed both shows, great concerts. At the end of the day I just prefer Zeppelin.

It's really apples and oranges, too, I agree, but I gotta go with Floyd. I get ear fatigue after too much LZ. I can pretty much never get enough of Floyd. Got a shitload of bootlegs that I used to listen to incessantly, bad quality or not.

Animals is my all time favorite album and I've probably listened to SHEEP more than any other song in my life.

LZ was my favorite band in high school, and as much as I love them, I'm going with the band that wrote all of their own songs.

I like ZL but pink Floyd were just on a totally different level when it came to songwriting and creativity.

ZL's catalog is majority ripped off songs from other band/artists.

Pink Floyd wrote dark side of the moon, have a cigar, and wish you were here.

That's enough for me to put them over the top

A question worthy of some discussion.

+1 for Zeppelin for me, in terms of the raw, ecstatic, and nearly godly energy.

Floyd for me has a more polished and consistent emotional flow, great songs and musicians.

Piece by piece I give Zep the edge on drums, vox, and guitar without question.

For songwriting and 'concept' albums I will give Floyd the edge, they kind of invented the concept album.

But overall I find Zeppelin more risky, vulnerable, sometime sloppy, but always transcendent.

Guitar without question? Really? I know this is an opinion based question and answer session, but JP was without question a better guitar player than DG?
