I'm told by the music board that their songs don't hold up.

I used to like that song but REK has milked that cow a few too many times so I'll throw out his live version of The Front Porch Song.

A couple of old classics -

I love me some REK, but if I never hear this song again, all the better

My favorite "story song" is Ruby and Carlos by James McMurtry. Fireline Road is another, and 12 o'clock Whistle yet another.

I think great story telling is what really seperates artists to me. My favorite songwriters to listen to are REK, McMurtry and DBT, and all three of them are extremely talented at telling stories in their songs.

I can't post from work, but probably my favorite is Radney Foster's "Went for a Ride". There is a live version on his "Are you ready for the big show" album, and it is just amazing!!

“Went for a Ride”, the true story of a freed Tennessee slave turned buffalo soldier, rodeo star, and Buffalo Bill Cody’s Wild West Show attraction, who is forced back to Nashville to work as an anonymous Pullman porter.

I've always thought that this story/song would make for an amazing movie.

Widespread Panic - C Brown

I have a soft spot for Chuck and the Peanuts gang so it was neat to hear a song in Chuck's honor.
