I'm partial to the solo from Mother.
Great solo. So much emotion. Like being shot out a hole into a beautiful, sunlit valley.

regardless of liking their music, if you don't think those 2 cats can play guitar, the joke is on you.

You think Prince and Slash are marginal guitar players?

I certainly agree with that, although I'm fond of a number of Slash's solos as well as Prince solos in Purple Rain and the George Harrison tribute deal.
But, insulting them to reinforce your opinion seems petty.

On what successful recordings might we have heard your work?

Dire Straits - Down to the Waterline
Jimi Hendrix - All Along the Watchtower (not my favorite Hendrix song, but that solo is so ahead of its time)

As have I. And I suck.

Knopfler reminds me of Gilmour to a degree he uses space and the blues scale in innovative ways.

It says something when you cover a song by a songwriter of the stature of Dylan, and then he turns around and changes the way he performs the song because you covered the shite out of it.

Duane/ABB on Don't Keep Me Wondering is pretty top-notch

So many great ones, but I'll go with Terry Kath from Chicago--25 or 6 to 4. Don't laugh...this is back when they were badass and before he shot himself, starting the de-evolution of Chicago into soft rock.
Live 1970.
Solo starts at 2:10 and goes to 4:45.
Jimi Hendrix told Chicago their guitar player was better than him.

Not insulting either artist- the thread is titled your favorite guitar solo of all time- Prince and Slash have not performed any guitar solo which I consider my alltime favorite. Sorry if I offended any Prince/Slash fans, but I consider them both marginal guitar players.

Fair enough.
How would you rate your own ability?

David Gilmour- Marooned is prob my fav, although I could go with about a dozen other Gilmour tracks.

After much thought about Gilmore, I have to offer this as maybe the greatest gem ever ( I know, here we go again).....

Comfortably Numb from the Pulse tour is GOAT to me.
Gilmour said his best solo was at the Superdome during that tour. And someone was shot during that show

Or more simply, who does he consider great? That's like somebody saying "the godfather sucks!" Ok what do you consider a great movie.

In a band with Geddy and Neil, I think Alex is a bit overlooked, but gotta give a nod to his work in La Villa Strangiato:

Always been fond of the solo in Aqualung. It is very melodic and soulful.
My other favorite would be this one :
In Need - Grand Funk
