And here is the 10,000,000th reply to say there is tons of good music out there. It’s just not on traditional ways to find it e.g. the radio

More bands have an opportunity to get their music out so it’s flooded with crap, but also great stuff out there. Country Music included

There's still some good stuff out there....a lot of crap to. It's not so much about the music anymore, it's more about image and the "formula." Apparently, references to sweet tea, partying, tractors and boots, are mandatory in country songs.

The industry co-opted the term “country” & applied it to some sort of pop derivative.

I just spent 3 days at the Larry Joe Taylor Fest west of Dallas. Country music is alive & well.

Add an adjective like “Texas”, Alternative, or red dirt to “country.” You’ll find some good music ... and some you don’t like.

I guess they ran out of ways to sing about being drunk, their truck, being in jail, divorced with a pregnant daughter and a dead dog, trains and rain.

IMHO, it started back in the early 90s,when they decided to "clean up" Music row and make it more touristy.
They got rid of all the guys playing/,sleeping on the street. got rid of the cool dive bars there, where you could meet talented people real easy and pick together and come up with amazing shite by accident.

They really cut out the heart of Nashville slowly, and now we are getting the final product. Programmed zombie country music.
It aint totally dead yet though, I think better days are ahead. Maybe real soon.

Actual country music isn’t played on mainstream radio and it won’t be ever again.

Not to be insufferably political, but isnt popular culture trying to get any music or media thats inherently white out of here?

Maybe im overthinking it but it seems like unless you infuse something with rap you have to fight to get it into the mainstream. Otherwise its corny and out of touch

Thats what happens when a mass majority has to walk on eggshells anytime they publicly express their views or opinions on something. Most music from the 70s - 90s could not exist today

If you mean totally traditional country music, I agree. I think more hybrid type stuff is going to gain popularity and replace the crap getting out right now. Stuff that at least has many elements of traditional country music.

Everything must evolve to survive.
Musically, I expect stuff that sounds closer to early ZZ Top, than Porter Waggoner. I hope so, because that's the type of stuff I'm working on right now.

George and Allan tried to warn us ........

Murder on Music Row

Seriously .... I stopped listening to "country" music several years ago when the what the hell is this crap trend started.

I've loved, followed and played bluegrass music for years and it is heartbreaking to see that genre headed down the shitty path as country went.
