If it was a festival and during the day time, sure.

Other than staying up past his/her bedtime, I see no problem

I saw Isbell last month at the Fox. A dad brought his son, which looked to be about 10 or 12. They were both singing the songs at the top of their lungs. It was pretty damn cool to see.

Everyone needs some Jason isbell in their lives. As long as you don't mind him Hearing somewhat offensive language like possibly you would hear in Elephant.

I'm sure the eight year old will be thrilled to see Jason Isbell.

Get a babysitter.

Elephant is about his only song, that I can think of, with explicit language. Even that isn't bad. Personally, I think it's a great idea to expose kids to good live music. If you aren't worried about the kid being up a little late, I say go for it. I don't think there is much hotboxing going on at Isbell shows, so you should be good in that regard.

There was a ton of pot smoke at Wilco if you are thinking Joy Theater. Saturday show doesn't start until 9.

Saw him in BHM a few weeks ago in the back of the Alabama Theater balcony. A couple with maybe a ten and eight year old in front of us. The oldest kid knew every word to half the songs. Seemed like they had a good time.

generally, i think its a great candidate for a first concert. odds are the venue is respectable, the musician certainly is. the crowd tends to land on the older side (ie lower key)

as others said - really the late night is the only issue. if you are down to bend that as a treat i dont think youd run into any issues specifically due to the concert unless you got real unlucky on who sat next to you.

I don't know your 8 year old, but if you don' think there will be behavioral issues, Isbell is a good first concert. Especially if its at an ampitheater with seats. I would balk at taking him to a club/bar, especially because standing room only would sort of ruin the experience for him.

If you think he can handle the responsibility, go for it. He'll have a cool story, and the show isn't full of objectionable material or anything.

I saw some couples bring their kids to an Isbell show a few weeks back. One of the kids actually got all the way up to the gate in front of the stage and looked like she had a blast.

I don't see anything wrong with it.
