Yep, same here.

Royals and Somebody That I Used to Know were both MASSIVE hits. They will be known for years and years.
On youtube alone:
Royals - 650 MILLION plays
Somebody That I Used to Know - 870 MILLION
Safe to assume that both of these songs will be known 20+ years from now.
On to the topic of both of these artists being on hit wonders... I have no clue what Gotye is doing. I know Lorde had a very successful album, and other hits. I also know she is coming out with more stuff.
I believe neither will have a hit as big as the two songs mentioned, or even close, ever again. Same can be said for Hozier with Take Me to Church.

I disagree. She only had one real hit with Royals. Team got some airplay but it was purely riding on the success of Royals and it fizzled out. Just because her album was great doesn't mean anything. Plenty of people with one-hit-wonders had albums that people really enjoyed. Personally, I never could get into the album.

Lorde is releasing a new single today. Hopefully it's as good as her previous stuff

how in the world could J. Geils Band ever be considered a one hit wonder?

I like a lot of alternative bands. It's mainly what I listen to.. Modest Mouse, Spoon, ect...
But I have always friggin hate the Royals song.

Yeah, well you know, that's just like your opinion man.
Royals reached number one on the billboard hot 100 and was on the chart for 44 weeks. Team peaked at number 6 on the billboard hot 100 and stayed for for 38 weeks.
Obviously not as successful as royals, but that's not "some success" and that's not "fizzling out."

Lorde, absolutely not.
Gotye, absolutely so.
Lorde just released another single that's going to blow up over the next few months. Pure Heroine, as previously stated, is a damn good album. She has creativity and good vocals. Runs with T-Swift, Lorde will be around for awhile.
