The cheesy-arse lyrics are the part that irritates me the most.

Yep - co-written by Bernie Taupin who I've always thought is overrated - even as a fan of early Elton John.

Worst song though:

Teddy Bear - Red Sovine.

For me it's "Never Been Any Reason" by Head East. Absolutely no redeeming value whatsoever.

"Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer" is a holiday novelty song, and is what it is. I hear a lot of humor in it.

"Butterfly Kisses" smells, but so does "You're Beautiful" by James Blunt. I think if it's possible for a song to stink to the ears, it's "You're Beautiful." Just abominable.

I’m with you on “all summer long”. Just lazy and uninspired, but that song “i believe in a thing called love” makes me want to take a nailgun to my ears.

The more I see people jump on the emptyheaded group nonthink of "We Built This City" as "worst evah", the more I find value in this song I never really cared about one way or the other in the first place. Video's bad, lyrics are goofy, but most people who namecheck it wouldn't know melodic composition if it bit em in the arse.

What?! Escape (The Piña Colada Song) by Rupert Holmes was one of the all-time classics of 1980s pop music, and inspired a "piña colada" craze in the early 1980s.

The original lyrics were written by Bernie Taupin.... yeah, THAT Bernie Taupin. He shopped around the lyrics looking for someone to write the music. Martin Page recorded a demo version. (The link below is supposed to be the demo, but some of the stories Ive heard don't line up... unclear)

That explains a lot to me. I don't know how anybody would put a song together that way. I have to do my writing with my guitar in my hand. I have tried doing it separately and it didn't work very well.

Without a doubt it is "Red Red Wine".

I agree but I am disqualifying it from the conversation because the reason I hate it so much isn't the song itself. It's the fact that I was once forced against my will to listen to that song continuously for a span of over ten hours by neighbors testing their newly bought stereo system. So technically it is not the worst song I've ever heard it is just the song that has came the closest to driving me to a homicidal rampage that I have ever heard.

I can not believe that on a site that treats Lynyrd Skynyrd the same way Schroeder in Peanuts treated Beethoven that I am the first one to mention that God awful, mishmash, cover version abomination that was Will to Power doing Baby I Love Your Way/Free Bird in the early 1990s. That made Achy Breaky Heart sound like Stairway to Heaven by comparison.

Found the non musically inclined boomer

But seriously, might be a little cliche but I have to go with a couple of stadium bro country songs here. That “it’s meant to be then it’s meant to be” song is the most pandering awful stuff. Just don’t understand how they haven’t just simply changed the formula for what goes on the radio. So much good music out there and this stuff is what the companies play because it’s mindless.

Quick shoutout to honkey tonk badonkadonk too

This will probably be an unpopular take but while I like Soundgarden and think they were a pretty damn good band their song Black Hole Sun absolutely grates on my nerves. It's like fingernails on a chalkboard to me. It's weird because I like most of their other songs, some a lot but not that one

No one has mentioned it, but I'm oldschool, and remember an awful song called "The Night Chicago Died" by a British group called Paper Lace.

Go take a listen to the new Guns and Roses song “Absurd”. It’s pretty bad.
