Wonder why Chris Knight has never made it big time?

Because he doesn't fit the definition of what "country music" is today. He will never get radio air time because he really doesn't belong to any certain genre. I'd rather that, though. I wouldn't want anyone to run him down by lumping him in the same category as the embarrassing train wreck that "country music" has become. I'm sure Chris could care less as well.

I saw him a couple of months ago. It was a solo acoustic show and it was awesome. It's a shame he's not more well known.

This is the correct answer.
The same would apply to Paul Thorn, Ray Wylie Hubbard, James McMurtry, etc.

Here's a great song from his '01 record "Pretty good guy"
If I were you :chills:
Just listen to it, you'll thank me.

Because he has pair of balls and won't conform to the industry. Chris Knight is the man

Hard edges is another good one I haven't seen anyone mention.

I met Chris at the Red Dragon show a couple years ago and it went something like this.
Me: So, do you like playing small acoustic shows like this? (the dragon holds about 100 people)
Chris: Yeah, I guess.
Me: How do you like Baton Rouge?
Chris: I hate this fricking place.
Me: oh ok
Chris: I mean the people that I met here were cool, but I hate this fricking town.
Me: ok, great show Chris. good luck in the future
I don't think Chris would ever do anything except for exactly the way he wants to. I'm not so sure he would even want to be popular based on my brief encounter with him. But he does kick arse.

I saw him play a small solo show in Nacogdoches, and he came across pretty much the same way.
To be fair, the crowd sucked, about 15 people there, including the wife and I, knew his songs, the rest were just there becaue it was open
