Why is "With Teeth" such a disliked NIN album?

I've always thought it was decent. More commercial than previous, but I don't think Trent sold out on it.

Love it. Listened to it non-stop for a while when it came out. Only one song really that I don't care for.

Nobody that I knew personally that was a fan had a problem with it.

First half of the album is bad. Pretty much everything after THTF is great.

I feel bad for anyone that really did give up on NIN after with teeth, because he's put out some great shite since then, and they're still the best live band in the world.

More than decent, excellent. There's not a bad song on it. I actually skip the radio played songs. If you really want to appreciate it, watch the concert "Besides You In Time". Excellent concert blu ray to crank up with a tasty beverage with lights off and surround sound ON.
Nine Inch Nails- "Besides You In Time"
Agree with other poster who said people who gave up on them in last 10 yrs are missing out. NIN was never a radio band. The best NIN songs do not include, "The Hand That Feeds", "Closer", or other radio friendly songs.

Is it? Maybe because the length of time from the last release. Anticipation for that length can leave you with too much expectations. When they fall short, the interest wanes. After Downward spiral it was like 4-5 years before The Fragile, I couldn't get into that one at all. Just became disintersted in Trent's work by then. Or mayeb becaue it's sometimes just isn't good. See Tool's 10,000 Days.

Yep.

Experienced that disappointment. Put it away for awhile, and then tried again. I like most of it now.

WTF? The Fragile may be the best album (double) of the library. Well worth the wait. Usually he takes 4-5 years in between. It's now that things seem to be speeding up. As a NIN diehard I beg you to go back and give The Fragile a serious listen. Also, put yourself in New Orleans a complete heroin addict, and listen to his first person account.
He recorded this at his studio in NO and it was at the end, and worst of his depression and drug abuse. If memory serves.
Somewhat Damaged-my fav NIN period. And it is the lead track to a roller coaster of emotions.

Most people can't stand the title track bc of the Witha Teetha line.

Another thing it has going against it is that Year Zero came out less than 2 years after it bc and YZ is one of his best IMO

I love the album and it's definitely underrated among die hard fans. It is the album that actually got me into NIN. Before it, Trent's music always seemed so dark and morbid, but this one opened the door to everything. Now NIN is probably one of my favorite bands. If I had to rank the top 5 albums, it'd be:

The Fragile
TDS
PHM
With Teeth
Year Zero

Wasn't as good as the, previous body of work. Felt very commercial and twiggy didn't bring anything to the table.

I get this. Makes more sense for someone who was already a big fan at the time of its release. WT would be a bit of a letdown after The Fragile and TDS.

Did he have much contribution on the previous albums? I thought everything was pretty much all Trent?

Twiggy was on part of WT tour band, possibly did some recording but I think Trent pretty much handles everything in studio. He just can't tour by himself. He IS Nine Inch Nails.
