I never knew Creed had a lot of haters. I enjoy many of their songs still today.

fricking this. People hate them because they were played so much and Scott Stapp acted like Johnny Manziel does today. Mark Tremonti is easily one of the best guitarists in the world today, and it shows in his songs in Alterbridge.

And that's another topic. People hate Alterbridge because they are "from Creed". Creed's lyrics were probably one of the best in combining catchiness and genius at the same time at least at the time they were created. I guarantee if they hasn't released the human clay album, people wouldn't hate them nearly as much. Ohhhhh. That and the fact that people just have a shitty taste in music.....most notably on this board

They had a couple songs I really liked. I had a hard time doing a whole album, but that holds true for almost any band for me. Probably better than most bands they get lumped in with.

This was ultimately what lead to Creeds demise.

Some quotes from people who attended that show in 2002.

quote:

Tonights show in Chicago was the worst CREED show ever!! Stapp was in the worst shape hes ever been. He was sooooooo drunk it was crazy!! He stumbled all over the stage all night, barely able to stand. At one point he was laying on his back singing. He was repeating lines, forgetting lines, making up his own words during the songs. He slammed the mic 3 times, he didn't even finish MS. He walked off the stage and Mark was nearly in tears, had too tell the audience he was going to go check on Stapp. People were freaking out, crying, booing, sitting, demanding their money back. He took his shirt off half of the show, with a towel around him, he even took his boots off.

quote:

just got home from the chicago show too.... wooooww .. hmm dunno what to say about that one, but you're right Tremonti held it all together and flip was amazing tonight too.... even though you could see that they were both pretty pissed off.. what is going on with scott???

quote:

I was at the show, tonight and it was really depressing. I really like Creed, but seeing tonights concert pissed me off. When Scott Stapp fell down, I thought he was being a typical rock star trying to be cool, laying down and singing. But then he looked like he couldnt stand up, although trying to multiple times. Then he gets in the fetal position. After that he gets up and runs off stage. Someone from the band said that Scott left the stage and they wanted to check on him. I thought maybe he had the flu or something, but it was obvious he was drunk. He started singing with arms wide open in the middle of higher, he forgot lyrics, and when he did that he just acted like he wanted the audience to sing. He barely moved, and usually on stage he has a strong presence. His voice was terrible, and he didnt even say thank you, he just wanted to get off stage as soon as possible. There was no talking between songs, as soon as one ended, the next one started. One thing I forgot to mention was that as soon as the lights went off for Creed, it took about 20 minutes for the band to actually come out. Definitely the worst concert I have ever been to, and Creed definitely needs to do something to make this up to the fans that paid $60 for the show plus $15 for parking. It would have helped a bit if Scott had admitted to being drunk, and better yet, cancel the show and reschedule. All tonight did was piss off a lot of fans that paid good money to see a bad concert. Another thing wrong with the show, that is not band related was that the TV on the right side of the stage barely worked, and that made it hard to see anything. Scott has definitely let his apperance go, and the whole shirtless towel thing was kinda gross. Did you guys hear how badly he butchered the end of my sacrifice?

Creed is just awful.

The songs are so trite and void of honest meaning. Musically, they are pretty generic and uninteresting. The lead singer thinking he is Jesus doesn't help.

Same here. I enjoy Tremonti's playing. I'm not a huge fan of the band but I don't lose my mind when they come on. I actually like Alter Bridge. Saw them live at a smaller venue a few years back and they were pretty damn good. Not my favorite band by any stretch but if I just want something to 'jam out' to while mowing the grass or some crap, they get the job done.

Throw in the fact that this was a band that marketed themselves as a "christian" band, and you had the lead singer drinkin', druggin', and frickin' groupies..It is the definition of some corporate execs dictating what type of music a band is going to play. It was all the same ALT-Rock bullshite, like Staind and P.O.D.

This. Add the fact that the mainstream radio WAY overplayed them and people just became annoyed w them. I liked them, but got really tired of hearing Arms Wide Open on the radio every 4th song.

Still my favroite piece of anti-Creed writing:

quote:

Speaking of pop-music villains, the detestable Scott Stapp and his unforgivably awful band Creed make their NOW! debut with “With Arms Wide Open,” a maudlin celebration of new fatherhood that finds Stapp bleating goat-like over melodramatic strings and third-rate grunge.

A lot of people hate Scott Stapp, mainly because he fricking sucks. They hate how Creed combines the worst elements of grunge—humorlessness, pretension, hunger-dunger-dang over-singing, melodrama—with the worst parts of Christianity: self-righteousness, faux-piety, rank hypocrisy. They hate how the monobrowed Stapp looks like the lovechild of Billy Ray Cyrus and a caveman, and they hate his penchant for striking Jesus poses. But mostly, as I argued earlier in this paragraph, they hate him because he fricking sucks.

A culture-wide tidal wave of Schadenfreude ensued in 2006 when Stapp was busted while getting a drunken blowjob from groupies alongside Kid Rock on Kid Rock’s tour bus. At that time, he could be heard loudly espousing family values throughout Clear Channel nation. Of course, blowjobs from groupies aboard tour buses is one of the preeminent perks of rock stardom, but it felt a little creepy coming from a guy keen to tell women what they should and should not be able to do with their bodies. (On “In America,” he thunders, “Only in America we kill the unborn to make ends meet.”) For those keeping track at home safe, legal access to abortion = morally wrong. Getting a sloppy BJ alongside the man who wrote “Early Mornin’ Stoned Pimp” = awesome.

Staind and Creed are like apples and oranges. I understand most here hate both, but they are completely different bands.

I agree he is a great guitarist, and SS is a douche
