I like these guys, but all they do is try to one-up you with stuff. Like "oh man yeah that song is good but this rare 12' that they only pressed 500 copies of in New York City in 1981 is SO much better"

yeah
<---------This guy probably has the best and most diverse taste in music.

I like rare stuff as much as the next guy (hell I spent about 8 hours straight a few Saturdays ago researching early '80s Italian funk) but they try too hard.

I think people are allowed to be a little pretentious on this board if they really know their shite
I mean as far as snobbery goes on this board it's not all that bad. It's got NOTHING on the F&D board

There are a lot of parallels between the craft beer assholes over there and the jam kids here.

I actually found some cool stuff on this board because someone referenced something I literally had never heard of. I thought that was really cool.
My tastes tend to go outside the mainstream, mainly because I'm a punk at heart - I like things loud and fast, recorded in lo fi. And that's not what is in vogue right now at all, so I'm not likely to like anything in the mainstream or their "underground" references. But I'll defend popular stuff, too. I just don't care whether something is popular at all. But I don't rip on, say, Nirvana for getting popular. And Nevermind is better than Bleach.

The Seaward.

Flying Nun Records. I had literally never heard of it. So I've been trying out their discography. Haven't really delved in yet, but it's on my list of things to do.

This is very true.
I will also go against the grain and say bobbyray is among my favorite posters because he at least takes iconoclastic positions and will logically defend them. He sparks discussion instead of just people going, "Yeah. I like that band, too." He challenges your worldview. I think he's often wrong, but at least he's interesting.
