The Doors were the better band 
But comparing the two individuals its Van all the way.

Personally, I like Van Morrison better, but their musical styles were so different that despite being from the same time period, I find them difficult to compare. Two completely different styles. Jim Morrison never did anything like Into the "Mystic" or "Astral Weeks", but Van never really did anything like "LA Woman".

I've never been a huge fan of the doors. I just find most of their stuff kinda boring. Van Morrison seems like a much better songwriter / singer.

I don't agree the Doors sucked, but Van the Man has done it all, and lived to tell about it.

Van was better song writer. Jim was the better poet. Their voices are both great, so to me that's a wash. Regardless, they are both great and each offer their own uniqueness... and both are extremely strange fellers
