Their are no similarities in sound that I can recall.
yeah, I don't see that really at all. maybe the art-rock aspect of both bands? but that's about it

No, I think its quite apparent to EVERYONE else on this board that you are a huge douchebag. Some of us just haven't said anything up until this point.

No one compared their style to Pink Floyd.
What is acknowledged by both fans and critics is that Tool is our generation's version of Pink Floyd - a progressive/experimental band.
But as far as opinions go - to each his own.

But I've read the comparison. Many times actually.
Its kind of a PC way of saying - this is a band you take drugs to. Which that in it self is understandable but still inadequate.

I think tool is much more "progressive" and "experimental" than pink floyd ever was or has been.
I don't know if that is a good comparison or not

I think the doors were far more experimental than pink floyd.

Tool fans are the only people that actually think this. Dream Theater, Sigur Ros, and Radiohead fans feel the same way about those respective bands.

I'll work on being less douchey by brushing up on my Phish (or rather everything jam band) knowledge to please the masses.

No
Atom Heart Mother and Meddle are some of the first progressive albums ever.

Off the top of my head, the only songs with 5 minute intros are Flood and Wings for Mary. Everything else gets going relatively quick. Now there are a lot of 1-2m, like 3rd Eye and Eulogy, but most of the jam is middle of the song and even then, I don't think any are 5m long...

I was like y'all once...I let trolls get under my skin, and I'd argue back with them. Then I woke up, and just went with the flow. Now that I am untrollable, it's almost painful sitting back and watching people fall into obvious troll threads

Nobody is saying you have to like any other music, just don't come here and constantly blab on about Tool and claim that everyone is an idiot for not liking it. You are the exact person that everyone associates all Tool fans with.

quote:agree. there are far, far more bands that are both more experimental and more progressive. why can't these guys see past tool? yes, they are slightly progressive and slightly experimental, i guess, but why do they get the distinction over any other band to be compared to floyd?
Tool fans are the only people that actually think this.
