Jeff Beck.

Not that he gets my vote but I'm surprised Kenny Wayne Shepherd has not been mentioned

He gets my vote. I have seen him live every time he has come within 4 hours.

How can you lol at Clapton. You must be dumb

I've always lol'd at Clapton. I think he is something approaching wildly overrated.

I'm just glad Slash hasn't been mentioned. He's really good, but not the greatest anything.

Also, he's not even real.

I have to go John Mayer for the OP's generation.

I like Jack White's music better, but I think Mayer is a more technically proficient guitarist.

I like to think Synyster Gates is cause his solos are pretty awesome in any of A7X song. BTW, i was est. in '89.

no

Synyster Gates isn't bad, but not great. There are a LOT of great guitarists nowadays, to a point that not a lot really stick out. But Buckethead is definitely going to be one of the top ones that does stick out.

Also, no love for Gus G, the Grecian God? Now the guitarist for Ozzy..

How about John Petrucci?

The guys from Protest the Hero, while I wouldn't call them the best, are master technicians of music.

Not super famous, but Andy McKee
