A Song for You—-Carpenters

Song for You—-Charles

Song For You—Hathaway

I am going Ray Charles here and in my opinion it’s not close. But of course the significant other says The Carpenters. Then the uncle says Donny Hathaway

If you have other songs or versions to add glad to hear/see them

If you think you’re lonely K-Ci

Bobby Womack

I think K-Ci does it better. I absolutely love both versions though. K-Ci honors Womack also

It would be more interesting (and not just the usual "my favorite covers" thread) if you limited it to three versions or more.

"I Heard It Through The Grapevine"

Smokey Robinson & The Miracles -- First recorded version. Berry Gordy thought it was weak and it wasn't released.

Gladys Knight & The Pips -- First released version. Hit #2 on the pop chart.

Marvin Gaye -- Recorded before Gladys Knight's version, but Berry Gordy didn't like it. As a result it wasn't released until more than a year after Gladys Knight. I was #1 for seven weeks and one of Motown's all time biggest sellers.

He did write it after all, and the only one of the OP's list that comes close to the original is Ray Charles.
