In my opinion the most under rated country singer of all time is Keith Whitley. His untimely death kept him from being the premier country singer of the 80-90s.

I could easily see both Alan Jackson and George Strait being in the top 7-15 range when it's all said and done.

I enjoy listening to George and he's had a hell of a career. In a generous mood, I would place him somewhere between 15 - 20. Saw him many years ago on a golf course in San Antonio. Almost didn't recognize him without the cowboy hat.

He is way up there. He bridged the gap from modern stuff nowadays to the classic 70's. he came up during Gilleys and Urban Cowboy era. But that was not really the type music he was putting out there.
Everyone bashing or critiquing him for not writing have a point. It hampers him in this discussion. Cash, Merle, and jones. Could do it all. But at different times were train wrecks. George always had his shite together.

This. "Amarillo By Morning" is a cover of a 1973 song written and recorded by Terry Stafford.
"Wrapped" was written by Bruce Robison with the specific intent and hope of having George Strait record it.
There are many others. George is a hell of a performer but he falls short of some of the legends.

He has stayed relevant more than most country singers his age. I don't think Jones or or Haggard would sell out large arenas at this stage of their careers.

George Jones won Country music singer of the year when he was when he was in his 50s and was a huge draw until the mid 90s when he has in his mid 60s.
