Many Linda Ronstadt covers were better than the originals: You're No Good, Just One Look, Heat Wave, That'll Be The Day, Back In The USA come to mind.
Her voice is technically precise but cold and soulless.
Her version of "Poor Poor Pitiful Me" is so bad I hated the song itself when I heard It. Only when I heard the orignal by Warren Zevon, he of the rough and limited vocal range, did I hear how good a song it was.
As for her Elvis Costello covers, let's not even go there.
She can't do emotional material, aside from her best track, "Long Long Time", where her range helps make up for her over-precision. But she still seems afraid of being sloppy in a soul-gospel style.
She works best in her songbook standards.

I wouldn't say it's my favorite, but while listening to Iron and Wine the other day, I heard them do Gilmour's "There's No Way Out Of Here." Gilmour's solo work always left me a little cold, and while on the dark side, that song really isn't too bad.

I think this one was some of her best work. (Of course, notice who is helping her out in the background)
